Hello Jon and welcome to Cointalk! It is a bit hard to tell the condition from the pics but it looks to be xf-au condition worth $4-$6 probably. Just in melt value it is worth about $3.30... nice find!
Welcome Jon. Because of the high price of Silver these days, silver quarters like this one (circulated and high mintage) are definetly only worth their melt value, which as mentioned is $3-$4.
The coin looks like it was dipped possibly. Has quite a lot of marks and nics on both sides. My opinion, XF worth about $2.50.
The current melt value is $3.30. You usually can get 90% of that easily, which puts the worth at $3. $2.50 is kind of low. Silver 1964 quarters aren't that hard to find in XF or AU condition and can usually be found in a dealers junk/bullion bag.
hey brothe welcome to coin talk.. and i must say its hard to find silver coins nowaday in circulation and if you do there all worn .. but still great.. i would say f you sent it in it would prolly grade a AU55 to ms 60-61 get a case / capsule for it or something cause you got a nice peice there... then put it in a 2x2 staple closed flip.. its a very common date so at most its prolly woth about 8 dollrs at most, altho most dealers wil give you about 3 at most..
can anyone tell me whether it is a good time right now to sell silver, or would it be better to wait a bit?
Silver is inherently more valable that gold. We have less of it and we more of it in industry. Once the Gold Standard crazies finally disapear as the economy rebounds, you might find $20 an ounce on silver to be a bargain. Ruben
I think it's a nice coin the reflection is hard to tell exactly, but not a bad find in a pile of coins
