Hello all. Im still fairly new to coin/bullion collecting and would like to ask you guys if my 2006 ASE is toning or is tarnished. The marks are at 1 & 8 o'clock. Thank you.
It is subjective where toning/tarnish/corrosion is concerned. Generally toning/tarnish is the same. If you like it, it is toned, if not, it is tarnished, by most usage. Corrosion is more extensive and usually includes damage that can not be readily removed. It is the same group of chemical reactions, just how much has occurred. Thin films produce toning, heavy deposits corrosion. IMO .
Drudge, How long have you had it? How is it stored? What about temperature and humidity control? Chris
And too there is staining, patina, rusting, Oxydizing. Basically all are a chemical reaction that causes that effect. Wherever that coin is and what is causing that will continue unless you do something to protect the coin.
