It's All Her Fault! My wife is really the cause to my passion for coin collecting today. She collects change. She gets every coin that I bring home each day. It really adds up and has saved our bacon at times when we've needed a little extra, hundreds of dollars. My wife ended up with a hand full of Walkers and 64 Kennedy's along with some Murcery dimes and Wheats. I came across her little stash of silver coins and got to thinking that we needed to perserve these old coins better then she had been. And that was all she wrote. After my purchase of the Red Book and the visit to the Coin Shop I got hooked. But I love it and my wife supports it 100% "as long as we can afford the cost". We had a rough moment money wise recently I had suggest selling some of my high dollar Morgans and my wife would not let me. She thinks they're pretty. I'm the luckiest man on earth to have my wife.
Well this is the easiest way for me to put it for xmas my Beloved has spent in excess of £500 on coins for me, I know this as she allways asks me before buying it if I want it   They range from Proof Silvers Nelson's to Celtic Silver & Bronzes with quiye a bit inbetween LOL De Orc :mouth:
At least my father in law collects coins too, and he and I often talk shop and get away from everyone else when we get a chance. He tried to start her in collecting, and she still has a small collection, but no interest in it at all.
I'm lucky, MrsSpud not only collects coins too, she just got elected as Director of the local coin club we belong to. We make a good team at coin shows finding nice coins and cherry picking Cameos and Varieties. She always gets a better deal than me when it comes time to negotiate the price from the dealers too
You missed a few subjects such as "got rid of mine instead of the collection" or "hey keep you hands off my stuff" or a few others of the same nature.
You didn't have a poll # for us that don't have a wife... That will have to be a problem if I ever need to pick on out...will she let me keep on collecting... Speedy
Not married, but can tell you the enthusiasm my relatives have... My brother, who is more like me than any other blood relative I have, nearly shares my enthusiasm. He wouldn't call himself a "collector," as he doesn't systematically acquire and organize coins, but he does have a good deal of interest in them, and keeps whatever he finds that sparks his interest. My collecting started at that point, so who knows? My father and grandfather have about the same interest I do... my grandfather doesn't so much as collect, as he hoards coin, out of an impulse to save almost anything that looks interesting. He has a whole roll of almost every state quarter and saves ALL his change, including a large number of Canadian coins (he's lived near the Canadian border several times in his life). He doesn't have much of what you'd call a collection, but enjoys looking at various coins and saves anything he finds somewhat interesting. He has entire rolls of Bicentennial quarters, something he enjoys saving whenever he sees them. My father has almost as much interest in coins as my grandfather, and saves any foreign coins he gets on his travels (he's in the Marines, and also had a civilain job that required him to travel a lot, so has had opportunity to gather many). He also has several coins he saved back when silver was being taken out of coins, a lot of silver Kennedy and Franklin halves, a few Walkers, Roosevelt and Mercury dimes, Washington quarters and one Standing Liberty, a few old pennies and nickels, and some modern commemoratives. My mother may say "neat" when she sees an interesting coin, but tends to roll her eyes and fake interest when I try to discuss coins in as muchh detail as interests me, lol.
Well...I think my coins agree with me on most points so if I ever get to that point in life I'm sure they will help me pick.... Speedy
My wife hates the hobby. No interest. No support. She'd rather have her finger nails and teeth removed with pliers than ever step into a coin shop. When I get change back at the register, I place it in a different pocket to examine at a later date. If I'm caught glancing at the lose coins, I suffer two or three days of anger. I rush to the mail box when I expect a delivery. If she beats me to it, at least a full week of bad attitude. Sometimes I get lost in my own excitement.... "hey, I got a letter back from Leroy and that coin turns out to be a new discovery... oh crap... nevermind. Sorry.". Ah yes, true bliss. I give it a year or two and either the collection or the wife will be gone. Let me know if I wasn't clear on anything.
I cant understand that attitude coin collecting is not the same as shall we say gambling, womanizing or the demon drink LOL De Orc :goof: Bit boring realy is'nt it
