    Good Luck!

Good luck, you sound like a real "stand up" guy. Glad you're looking out for your friend, we all need friends like you.

Hope the guy will allow you to help him out, and I hope you'll reap some rewards too!

he got back to me today finally and said he needed to "catch up" so either he is going to go dump all his change to some dealer that will rip him or he is going through a tough time.

I could care less if he sold me some, as long as he doesnt get screwed.

well I did the polite thing and called him and asked him if he didnt want me to find him any more dealers or any help and he said he would call me back real quick.

he threw me a text saying we will plan something this weekend.

I dont know what to think, I just hope I can run my hands over all this silver (with gloves of course) and pull the good ones out for him.

well update, after waiting a month, he finally contacted me to go through his coins.

I found out that he sold over 1k face value worth for 10k cash in a town about 4 hours away.

but today he brought over a bag about half full over silver and some clad (from the machine dump and bought back)

went through it and found about 300 dollars face value of silver quarters.
about 13 dollars worth of possible DD's
and made a set of 64 through 34 for him, the oldest I found was several 34's and two standing libs with dates worn.

    he has more.

heres a picture of the pile after I went through it, IMAG0040.jpg

Would he? How many times have we seen discussions saying for security reason NOT to tell people you collect coins? Many collectors keep the fact secret from their friends.

I had lots of fun going through these, even got one of my banker friends to put them by year so it would be easier for me to go through them all while I was building his set.

Well I got a similar story my coworker had some gold coins and was going to cash them in so I asked if I could buy some. He sold all of them to royal coins and didn't let me get any! I was mad to say the least. Flash forward: this same coworker just got 2 bags of coins from his dad and has no interest in anything but their value in quick cash. I harassed him about the golds so now while he's on vacation I get to pick what I want and can get them for the price a melt dealer offered to him. I will do an inventory of what I got here but I don't really know what are good years. When I get the inventory I will post so let me know what to look for!

16 pounds! Wow! Haha. That's $4200ish in silver at current spot prices.

nice man! I guess this buddy of mine has more coins for me to go through for him here shortly.

I didnt take any sort of compensation for my time as of yet, but he was willing to pay me, told him I would prefer coins over cash.

Anything I should look for in particular? Grabbed a few I thought looked nice, but don't know if there is anything that I should really search for. Help out with hints. Also the other bag is only qtrs so I think I got the 12 lbs not all 16 lbs. Which would include 1/2 & $'s. On to bag #2!

@dr4g0n3 this isn't comp but just a good price for the ones I want. He is taking them to royal coins when he returns from vacation. Wife wants a new 55"+ tv for their living room.

For some reason he had this bunch separated from the other quarters. Included a bunch of Washington, a few dimes, the stacks are 2 standing liberty and 1 barber qtrs. Will look at these first then the others to keep separated. Any key dates or anything else I should look for?

yes there are key dates too look for, best bet is to buy the red book if your going to collect, always buy that before collecting.
