Not so good at these but: I think now it would maybe get a details grade. From that face, brow and hat scratch's almost like a grind. As for grade I'm thinking 45.
A disappointing coin for the detail. The obverse at 12 and 1 o'clock and 6 o'clock just draw my attention (not good). The reverse is very nice. Can't give a grade though. This coin is all over the map.
I think this is a nice coin: EF40-45 for detail, with a bit of chatter around the rims, net VF35. (I think what looks like a rim dent on the obverse may be a cud?) I would be surprised and dissapointed if this coin was details or genuine graded. It deserves better. I have seen MUCH worse in top TPG slabs.
A VF35 IMO as the clasp is almost worn to non existence and the rims have some chatter. On the other hand that is a die crack/break through the center of the shield.
EF40, the reverse of that coin is something of an AU coin with wear on the eagle's left wing and some on the talons. The obverse is that of a VF, like it has been said before, the clasp is nearly gone, and there is wear on the cap, all over in the hair, on Liberty's face, not to mention the marks on Liberty's face.
The 40's have it. I think some of you are confusing a weak strike with wear. The dies were at the point of failure when this coin was struck, especially the reverse die which has shattered.
Good to know I got it right, but still I graded the obverse and reverse differently then they did. Keep these threads coming, I'm enjoying your guess the grades.
