Animal related coin? I would like to see some pictures of some beautiful coins with nature related depictions on it. Post your favorite! Here are mine: (the seahorse is from Singapore, as well as the swordfish. The hedgehog is from Australia)

Since I don't collect world coins, per se, I really don't have a favorite, but to keep this thread going.............

  13. My favorite is by far the coin that is my avitar here. It is the Norway 1 øre coin depicting a squirrel, my favorite animals. They were issued from 1958-1972. I have four dates right now: 1958, 1959, 1962 and 1972. Someday I will complete the date run. They have actually been hard for me to find, I looked for quite a while and then found all four of these with the same person.

Most of them on ebay have been drilled to make earrings :(

I only wish they were not made of copper, because my local squirrels are gray :)

I do not own this coin. Though I do have one from the series, just no pictures of it.

    Why I like this one:
-- As far as I know, it's the only hexagonal coin minted by the U.S.
-- It's a bronze from 1943, the year of the steel cent.
-- It was issued for the Bank of the Belgian Congo. Belgium had surrendered to Germany in 1940 and that surrender, still in force, formally included Belgian colonial claims.

Interesting also because they misspelled "Belgisch" on that coin. :)

There are plenty of great world coins with animals, someone already beat me to the Belgian Congo elephant. I'll take the dancing elephants of Rhodesia, I forget what the current name is but it's no longer Rhodesia. I also included the gold lion coin as I daydream of some day being able to buy one if I could even find one. :D
