I picked up as a last resort on the mint's website the 2009 mint set both P & D. Other than just as a personal collection type thing, is there any reason to get these instead of the proofs? I got them personally so I can have great UNC of the quarters, pennies, and Presidentials. Also, I didn't realize that the Sac dollars have had the reverse changed on them, when did this start?
Also, I just found out about Position A and Position B 2009 Sac dollars. I just looked at my mint sets and found I have one of each. Does A or B differ in value? Edit: It is the D mint that is in Position B
The 2009 Mint and Proof Sets contain bronze cents unlike those struck for circulation. Therefore, I would buy the Mint sets if I were to speculate because there are twice as many cents as the Proof Sets
Does the Position B add to value any? Also I have noticed the Pos B on some presidential dollars that I have had lately
The theory at this point is positions A&B will have about the same populations, since the position is random. Just an addition to the 2009 mint set - not only are the cents bronze, they also have a satin finish and are struck with more pressure, much like a matte proof.
It's all over but the crying at this point...:crying:. Prediction...they should start going up in price on eBay in the near future.
...in any event, the 15th was the last you could order from the mint. if i understood correctly. :smile
The Sac dollar changed to the Native American dollar in 2009. There is no difference in value between A & B. I remember when the Prez dollars first made their debut, and SleazeBay sellers were trying to sell these as an error coin. What a joke! Chris
A vs B I saw that happening and decided to bust open a roll and was really excited to discover to find I had been blessed with a collection 10 "A" & 15 "B"'s. Then I checked out which demanded the premium. Some bidders preferred "A"'s and some paid more for "B"s. Now the parking meters I use them in don't care.
I generally don't purchase modern US Mint Sets, but aside from the 1996 with the 1996-W Roosevelt these are the only sets I have purchased. On the last day of sale I went ahead and bought 30 more sets.
2009 Uncirculated Mint Sets the only place to get 95% copper cents is the 2009 P+D uncirculated mint sets and the 2009 S proof set. The uncirculated set is in satin finish and the only satin finish coin in the original alloy of the 1909 cent. First place for lowest mintage: The 1931-S has been knocked out of first place for lowest mintage (866,000) and has been replaced by the: 2009 P+D 95% Copper/Satin cents 745,000
That's the 2008 P+D satin cents that have a mintage of 745,000. The last I saw for the 2009 was 754,000 sold and that will go up due to last minute purchases. In any case the 2009 should end with relatively low sales and be a strong set in the secondary market. Either way, the 2008's are the winners for the lowest mintage satins and the lowest mintage of the Lincoln Memorial Series, which ended in 2008. The 1909-s vdb is the lowest mintage Lincoln at 484,000.
good sets to hold onto word also has it that this will be the last of the satin coins. the sacagawea has a new reverse for 2009. i mean......whats not to like about the 2009 sets? good upside potential, especially when the coin book companies put slots in their books for these cents. millions collect Lincolns.....only about 3/4 million available.
That fact will keep prices down, but the satins should still appreciate, as there is demand for them. I wrote to Whitman and others because I'd like to have spaces for the satins, as well as the business strikes in my collection and I'd like to see the satins listed separately in "The Red Book". Try writing to them, with enough requests, they should see the demand will make them money.
I bought 10 more on the last day of sale as well, to go along with the 15 or so I already had. I think they are going to be winners!
I like the set for the nickels, dimes, and quarters. My daughters bought me a 2009 Denver mint nickel and dime for father's day. Both coins were satin finish. It cost them $2.75/coin. Apparently, it is cheaper to get coins from the mint set than get business strikes. Hopefully, the "sell out" will increase the value of the mint sets.
The U09 is still a bargin. The U09 is selling on ebay at $31.88 with 5 bids and 3.45 S&H. Skykine coins for the 8 coppers went from 19.95 to $24.95 Only $3.12/penny. The 24.95 is almost the mint issue price of $27.95 for the set. Back to $3.12/penny most likely MS-69 mintage of 744k the 1931-s mintage of 866k was $87-$92 in Good a month or 2 ago.
