First off no question is dumb. When you pay for coins to be graded by most grading services they include the slab and sonically encapsulate it, in other words yes they secure it in the slab. Grading actually can cost up to 45 dollars for a single coin. In most cases it costs 15 dollars for more modern coins, and there is usually a minimum of 5.

That's what I thought, $15 a coin, plus shipping. So he wants less than the grading fee ? Must be single, my wife would call me stupid if I did that.

Some larger dealers on another ahhemm, forum, say that with bulk grading , they can get PCGS at $7 a coin. I have never done it, but I suspect it is close to that. And true, they wholesale off any that don't make the needed grade.

i have seen a pcgs ms64 pa state quarter for 9.99 shipped! i was thinking of buying it. but in reality i would just be paying 9.74 for some plastic.

i also just got a ngc coin for $4! i needed the specific coin and why not pay a $1 more, for it to already be graded.

No. When he submitted the coin he thought it would grade 65 or 66 say. When the coin came back it was graded 64. But a 64 is only worth $9 say. So he has no choice but to sell the coin at a loss.

    Simple as that.
