Can someone please post pictures of a coin with original mint luster and coins with out. And how about some information. Where can I read up on the subject? Are there any good books or websites on the subject? I'm trying to teach myself about it and I've read what it is and I think I understand how it's formed on a mint coin but I have yet to see one. I've asked dealers who had 100's of coins on display to show me what mint luster looks like and they could not do it! Can someone on here please help? I want to avoid buying coins that are supposedly uncleaned and still retail their "mint luster". Thanks in advance. Mark

Maybe a communication problem of some sort. Coins in hand with a patient dealer would be better. Cause then they could show you whizzed and polished coins.

Circulated Good (No Luster) About Uncirculated (Some Remaining Luster) Brilliant Uncirculated (Fully Lustrous) If you are interested in buying uncirculated coins that have not been cleaned, your best strategy is to buy coins graded by either PCGS or NGC. Over time, your experience will grow as will your ability to grade coins and recognize problems like harsh cleanings.
Nice post Paul and that was one the threads I was looking for - I went through a couple of pages on searching looking for that one. Hopefully reading that post and looking at your pictures he gets an idea of what luster is.
