Have 2 twenty five cent Dominion of Canada Bills. Date Jan 2nd 1900. Anyone here collect this stuff and have any background on these.. Both have seen far better days condition wise. (rough)
Sounds like "Shinplasters" Canadian fractional currency. First ones were from 1870 and were created due to a coin shortage and were supposed to be temporary. However, they were very popular and two more issues were made for 1900 and 1923. (The 1900 is from my collection, the other two are images from the net.)
They sure are.. the ones I have are like the middle one but NOT even close to being that nice of condition. Thanks for all the help on these guys. My questions have been answered. Note to self, Stay at work, these are not going to allow you to retire.. : )
The 1900 issue I consider a design error. It looks like a reversal of a British one penny coin of that era. Thus the coat of arms is perverted (in the mathematical sense). It is the same as flying the Union Jack upside down.
