This was one of the more interesting pieces that I got from my family. I found it in my grandfather's tin of world coins. MERCHANT'S EXCHANGE, WALL ST, N. YORK / BUILT 1827 / BURNT 1834 MILLIONS FOR DEFENSE / NOT ONE CENT FOR TRIBUTE The original Merchant's Exchange Building, as seen on the token, was built in 1827 and burned seven years later. In 1836, a new building was constructed on the site where it still stands, which was for a time the headquarters of Citibank. Today the building, located at 55 Wall St., is home to luxury apartments.
Unfortunately, no. It comes just as I'm moving out and starting my new job. (There will be a post on that soon, don't worry. )
Hard times token, Low-97 HT-293 R-1 There are three varieties of this token Low 95 and 97 are common Low 96 is very rare, They all have the same obv but different reverses, all of the same design but with differences in the placement of the lettering.
What do tokens of this era sell for ? roughly? I might be attending a local coin action - it advertises tokens among its list.
The ones you inherit are (in my opinion) the best of the best. No matter how many coins I may add to my collection throughout the rest of my life, none will ever top the few I inherited, and am at least the third generation, possibly fourth, to own them in my family! That is a cool token you inherited. It has a lot more wear on it then I am used to seeing on Hard Times Tokens, although I'm far from an expert I have read a bit about them and seen a few in person. From what I've gathered they did not circulate long so I wonder if that served time as a pocket piece or perhaps was a ground find. There is a ton of history in that token!
Ardatirion's....Coin Outta The Vault...Part 2.. I like this piece quite a bit, keep it up man, would like to see some more pieces of yours.
Great Token!!! My only copper pieces are Items I inherited..... I didnt even know my dad had coins (there were only a few) but even though I think they are ugly they would be the last coins I would ever sell. thanks for sharing
