I just opened a box of pennies today and the first roll yielded one wheat penny, I was kinda thrilled about that considering that you don't normally find a wheat penny in the very first roll you open, but as thrilled as I was about that, I wasn't nearly as ecstatic when I found the one in the first roll as I was when I opened the next two rolls and the reason why that was is because in the second roll I opened, I found 9 wheat pennies and by the thrid roll, I was getting hyper-manic because in that roll of pennies was 29 wheat pennies. That makes for a total of 39 wheat pennies in those 3 rolls alone, in order to get that many wheat pennies searching average boxes, you'd have to go through $100 worth of pennies to find what I found in my first three rolls of pennies in this one box! I'm just crazy psyched by my latest roll search find!

At this point, I've been though 9 rolls and found a total of 47 wheat pennies, most of which came from those first three rolls!

I just started this again after a very long haitus, but have not found a single piece of silver yet ? I have gone through a lot of rolls since the first of the year too.

    Good finds guys.

That is actually a pretty good average. If you bought a $25.00 bank box of pennies/cents and had that same luck , you'd end up with 100 wheat cents. I usually only get 8-20 wheats out of a whole bank box.

    Roller

Last week I rolled about $225 worth of change that a friend was going to take to the coin exchange @ 10%. Told him I would roll it for free. Hears what I cherry picked.
    1 1962 Quarter
    1 1965 1/2
25 wheat cents the best being a 1910 ag
    475 pre 1982 cents
    1 Cayman Island 10cents
1 tunnel token for the three boroughs
New to coin talk but so far so good. Good luck!

    $500 box of halves instead...

First roll had a 40%... then had to go through 43 more rolls until I found another.

2 clads. zilch of everything else.

20 rolls of cents today. 8 were 2010 D or Shield at each end, so didn't bother. Of the remailing 12 rolls 1-1941 wheat a 1960 D large date, a 1961 MS red a 1970 S (I cannot tell the difference between small & large date) and a 1977 MS red.

Anybody need 2010 D cents ? I will swap for whatever.

I know that the 1970-S small date has been discussed to death in other threads on here , however one way that seems pretty consistent across all the different 1970-S small date possibilities is to ignore the date.
Look at "LIBERTY". The "L" will be well struck and it will become noticeably less well defined by the time you get to "Y".

The coppercoin website says that is not always the best indicator. The problem is that I have read and reread all the info I can find and there seems to be some discrepency on the PUPs and the difference is very slight. I feel that I may have 4-5 of them, but don't have anyone to authenticate it with me. Buying one on eBay seems too risky, because many of them listed as small dates so not appear to be. Many are listed with a ?. I guess if it was easy, they wouldn't command such a premium ?

Maybe I can help you identify the small vs. large date. The terms "small date" and "large date" are sort of a misnomer implying that the fonts are large or small---actually they are about the same. It should actually be called a "high 7" or a "low 7".

The key is the positioning of the "7" in relation to the "0". Draw an imaginary horizontal line across the top and bottom of the "0". On the small date, the top of the "7" will be even with, or slightly higher than the top and bottom of the "0", thus a "high 7". On the large date, the top of the "7" will be be positioned slightly below the top of the "0" and the bottom of the "7" will be slightly below the bottom of the "0".

Hope this helps you ID the coin---if you can post an image of the date, I can ID it for you----

At the present time, I have seperated about 6-7 possibilities from my roll of 1970 S cents. I will scan them tonite and post it. I have looked at the drop 7, weak LIBERTY, curvature of the 9, the crease at the 7 and the inside angle of the 7, the positioning of the 1, etc. but quite honestly, I just can't see it. Some dates actually look smaller ? This is becoming an obsession with me. LOL

I certainly would appreciate any assistance you can give me. Thanks.
