I live in WV and NONE of my local banks have any rolls of the 2010 Lincoln Pennies. Does anyone else have this problem or is it a regional thing? I see that they are going for about $6 a roll on eBay, and really don't want to have to pay that when I can go to the bank and get them for 50 cents. Side note... I asked my personal bank if they could order me some and they said that they don't order specific coins, that they put in an order and just get an assortment of the denomination. Does anyone know of a bank that would be able to order for me. My bank is a one location local bank, would I have better luck ordering them at the closest Chase bank even though I don't have an account there?
Sometimes you are just as well off checking with your local gas station attendant to see if they have any shiny new cents in the cash register. You may feel a tad awkward asking, but you'll get over it!
I'm traveling right now. I got two shield cent's today in change from an Einstein bagels shop in downtown Chicago.
Smart idea. Make sure you have some other "verified" rolls to exchange. Stores hate depleting their change supply since it costs them more than face to order from carriers. Make friends with a local merchant and offer to sell them your searched rolls. You could save them money by eliminating or reducing their need to buy change.
I've only ever found one at work. I've been doing a lot of roll searching from banks and I have yet to pull one from there. I'm in North Dakota btw.
not to be Captain Smartypants, but if you could just walk into the bank and get them for 50¢, do you think that they'd be selling on eBay for $6 a roll?
No to brag or anything but, my last two boxes were all 2010's .. was sort of disappointing since I had nothing to search. But I'm Happy. They are tucked away and I try to forget about them. Could be due to me living so close to the Philly Mint.
I didn't see any for a long time; just started showing up at the beginning of the month. Now I see at least one per day in the change drawer. My new problem isn't findig them but finding one that looks good enough to stay on my set!
I've gotten all mine in change. They really aren't that hard to obtain in my area. Also, just because you ask for a specific roll of something doesn't mean they don't have it. I don't know if you want an actual sealed roll of just those coins, or you are just wanting to have some of them. If you just want them, singles, not rolls, you can ask for rolls of pennies. In a lot of banks, they have the newer pennies mixed in with the older pennies.
i got some unc P's & D's. but i have been getting P's like crazy in change around here. i absolutely love this coin, so i have been saving all them! you can't be to far from pittsburgh. i think you should be seeing them soon.. what part of WV are you from?
I am not sure if you wanted BU or not. If you are open to lightly circulated coins you might try visiting cafes or Starbucks coffee shops that are located "in" or around hotels. That way the change from all the out of town (or out of country) visitors will make its way to you. I ask my baristas if they see any old cents or foreign when they are giving me change from my coffee purchases. I would do the same at the bars & lounges located inside hotels (if I were a drinking person).
Thanks for that info. My first roll of D's came from the bank a few weeks ago. Friday, when I swapped some dimes, all the cents the girl had left were new ones. Guess I shoulda took em ?
The mintage #'s are going to be through the roof, so I expect it's going to be a really short run for the high popularity ? I just checked eBay and it seems they are not even getting bids at $0.99 a roll, and you cannot ignore the shipping cost though.
I went to get $10 worth of cent rolls today. 8 of the 20 are 2010 D, String bank rolls. I am even finding some in the other rolls. I am almost certain the new rolls will not have spots, at least the last new roll I opened, didn't have any. I think we are going to be flooded with them in a few weeks ? Should I open mine and search for errors ?
