I, too, question the authenticity of this coin. They are heavily altered and counterfeited.

I too dont like to talk about others coins in a bad way. But he did ask our opinions and that I will give. At first look it looked semi harshly cleaned and I think it'll be a body bag or the Genuine label.
That said. It's a hard date of course and I don't own one :D I'd take it for sure but that price would be a big deduction from a non cleaned one. And I see no reason to think it is not authentic.

Im thinking harshly cleaned unc details. It is definitely worth having authenticated, and would probably bring a great price at auction. Somebody working on a 7070 would snatch it up real quick.

I think a lot of people are mistaking die polish lines for cleaning...

I dont feel those lines in front of his face are die polish at all. Plus the miss coloring there and on the high spots of his shoulder show cleaning to me also.

But like others have said it's still a key date that's not real harmed.

I think that if they were die polish lines, they wouldn't continue on through the face area.

That is correct. Think if a person is polishing a die. The surface of that die drops off where the face starts and there is no way that the instrument that is polishing it can drop (evenly too) and scratch the impression too.

Mike, Die polish lines do not go onto the at least beyond the edge. See http://www.cointalk.com/t111879/

even though its cleaned, its still a great coin with unc details. as long as getting it back authentic does not bother you, do it.

i personally would send it in.

If the black spot is not into the metal, you may be able to remove it by just nudging it with your finger nail. Or any thing non metal of hard to leave a abrasion to the coin. Good luck. :)-O)

Those aren't die polish lines, both sides of that coin have been scrubbed.

I would say they would put it in a Details holder which would say: FINE-12 DETAILS, HARSHLY CLEANED. - coincrazed

    c'mon, really? are you serious?

The details are far better than Fine. Maybe you mean Net grade F - AU details.

i think the details are way better then F12....

It was bargain priced---I am even more concerned about authenticity. I hope you purchased it from a reliable dealer.

    Yea much better then Fine...

AU details cleaned and at that price you did fine. Let me clarify...the Price was Fine not the Grade :D

If you have a problem cent , just send them to the school for bad pennies. You won't recognize them when they come back to you.
