Lets talk about the bad state quarter designs

I like the CA quarter, too! As a matter of fact, I liked it so much that I bought 4 - $25 bags each of P&D to search for high-grade business strikes. One thing I noted, though, was that there were a lot of filled die chips in much of the lettering. There were so many variations of die chips that I was seriously considering submitting them to NGC with a special request that the insert be titled, CONDOR DOO DOO. I think it would have been particularly neat for the one below that has a big blob on the brim of Muir's hat.

I have to agree here, they did a horrible job with the horse and rider no effort what so ever.

 

It's my understanding that state officials wanted it to look just like their license plate, but the only thing they forgot was the bugs & flies.
