Gentlemans. I want to show you my modern Russian Commemorative coins. These coins were minted during 2000-2010 and I hope that you"ll enjoy it
During the WWII USSR struggled against German"s fascists and their allies (Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Finland, Croatia and Romania). We are lost about 27000000 persons (about 19000000 non-combatants & about 8000000 soldiers). The Day of the Great Victory (9 May 1945 - is a main Russian holiday). Each family lost one or more own members. For example: my great-grandfather falled in 1943; but my granfather was a prisoner of a concentration camps during 14 July 1941 - 2 May 1945. My another great-grandfather struggled against fascists in Russia, Poland & Germany. So, Russian mint produced these coins. 10 roubles 2000, Bi-Metallic copper-nickel. "55th Anniversary of the Great Victory". 10 roubles 2005, Bi-Metallic copper-nickel. "60th Anniversary of the Great Victory".
Yuri Gagarin was the First Spaceman in the world. In 2001 Russian mint (Moscow & St. Peterburg) minted this commemorative coin: 40th Anniversary of the First Space Flight.
Since 2002 Moscow"s & St. Peterburg"s mints produced the small series of commemorative coins (7 pieces) devoted some of our ministries. This coin devoted the Ministry of Education.
10 roubles 2007, bimetallic. "Novosibirskaya oblast". The word "oblast" is analogy of the word "state".
Great thread Siberian Man. Here are two that I have as part of my "horses" collection. I love the way that the space in the center of the 0 of "10" has a directional image that shifts from "10" to "RYB" depending on the angle at which you view it. That's a pretty amazing thing to build into a metal coin!
I'm sorry for your grandparent's struggles. Those are great looking coins. It is unusual to have a 55 year anniversary coin. The sentiments on the coins are really good.
Growing up in the United States in the 1960's, I never thought that the Czarist eagle would re-appear on Russian coins. Russia 1 Ruble 1991 - Commemorates 1941 Battle of Moscow Bought this one because it has a blimp on it.
