I know there are alot of roll searchers on here but are there any other bag searchers? I have been searching halves by the bag over the last few months. This afternoon I picked up five $1000 bags from my bank. These are from the Atlanta Fed. One of them has been in storage since 2007. It's interesting reading the shipping information on the tags.

I asked my bank to order me a box of halves, and they accidently ordered a bag instead. Only time I've searched one: no silver :(

    good luck with your hunt!

So the question seems to be... how do you get bags?

I'd LOVE to get some bags. I might kill for $10k in halves bagged... ;)

    Fifty,

Any silver found in the bags you search?

My bank ordered me a $500 box of halves (no silver btw) but at the time when I picked them up they said they had a bag too, I didnt' get it as I didn't have enough money on me to do it. I was going to go back but forgot about it, that was a few weeks ago. I'll check next time I go if they have bags.

I found one 1968-D so far out of four bags. I have one left that I need to get done today so I can take it to my credit union and cash all of them in. I did find a wierd 2000 that I'm looking for more information on. You can follow that one here http://www.cointalk.com/t113342/

My next thought is to find out if I can turn coins back in in bags. I got these plastic wrapped one time use bank bags. It's a pain to roll up all these coins plus I have to buy the wappers. I could buy cloth bags for less than the price of the wrappers. I'm going to see if my credit union will take the bags if I write my name and account number on the bag.

I used to get bags of half dollars out of my banks coinmachine I found some interesting things inside those. One bag I got had 105 silver halves in it including a bunch of walkers and franklins. They no longer will sell me the bags :crying::( which is sad but now I go through boxes instead

I realize this doesn't fall within the parameters of searching bags for silver, varieties and errors, but I used to order bags and bags and bags from the Mint to search for high-grade coins to submit for grading. It turned out to be reasonably profitable for me because I ended up with a lot of MS68 business strikes for Sac's, Kennedy's and SQ's. I sold many of them, and those sales alone paid for the total cost of the bags plus the grading fees and I still had most of the coins left from the bags to spend.

Unfortunately, I can't afford to do it any more, but if I could, I sure would because you can no longer get business strikes from the Uncirculated Sets since the Mint changed to the satin finish. The only way you can find high-grade business strikes is by searching bags and rolls from the Mint.

I finally finished all five bags, it was hard work but I think I may have learned a few things. I am going to see if I can start turning in coins in these plastic bank audit bags like this http://www.banksupplies.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/62
My selling point is going to be, you've got a barcoded bag instead of some paper rolls. If you log the bag when I turn it in and the Fed says it's short you know who to blame. If all I had to do was move coins from one bag to another it would cut my processing time by 75%. Also bags are cheaper than rolls, even if I had to use the cotton ones. It is so nice living close to a Fed branch, kind of gives me an endless supply or coins.

I found only 3 40% silvers. I did find 3 1987's. I also found a handfull of proofs but they were circulated. Still no 1970-d. I have read about people finding them but after looking through 100000 coins this summer and no luck I am not expecting to.

Question: Does the mint release proofs not bought into general circulation? Where are they coming from?

I turned in coins in one of those plastic bags just once through my BoA branch, and that was the last time for me. Not only did the Fed charge for the "convenience", but they shorted me 11%.

The proofs that you find in circulation were more than likely "borrowed" by some kid from one of his parents' collection so he could buy a candy bar or ice cream cone.

Thanks for the advice. I asked the branch manager at my bank and they said they would take the bags but I would not get credit until they were verified at the Fed. I decided just to stick with boxes so I can get credit as cash instantly.

I did six boxes today and found 33 40% and 10 90% (2 Franklins & 1 Walker). Not a good run. I am thinking about quitting. I'm in good shape but it sucks lugging those coins in 90 degree heat. This last batch left me with a small profit after buying a handtruck and wrappers. I like finding the 90% ones but they are a mixed blessing. I can't sell them, atleast I can't get a good price until I have $500 face and I don't expect that to happen anytime soon.

Check around with different banks and even the different branches of the same bank about dumping.

I've been getting 2 boxes per week and was rolling them all to be returned. I couldn't convince the bank to let me bring them in loose, even though they were breaking the rolls and counting them by hand before they sent them off to Loomis.

Just yesterday I found a branch of my bank nearby that said I can turn in as much loose change as I want. They said to come pick up some bags and turn in as much as I want. They will give me the cash across the counter for how much I think is there and then they send it to the bank headquarters in another town. If they use the machine and come up with a different number they will simply adjust it in my account.

My plan is to make sure I count out exactly how much I am giving them back so I can see how the machine they're using works. I'm scared of the things like what was posted above. I'll be turning it 2.5k the first time so losing 10% would be a big hit.

Have you tried selling at a coin show? Also APMEX buys over 1000$ value, not face.

I have over $800 face and APMEX said they would buy from me. Of course they reserve the right to change their mind or quote me a lower price. What you see advertised isn't always all there is. Sometimes a phone call can sweeten the deal.

I tried selling at a coin show and every dealer quoted me prices far below what APMEX and Monex were offering. Even with the shipping charges it still was a rip off from dealers.
