Recently I have been hording coins (so far over 5000 wheats, 1000 mercurys, and others ha) and plan to keep these for some time since I am 19) as well as completing sets. Now, I have had the opportunity to buy more of them from auctions and such but want to get your input as to what is a common value for: Indian Cents: Wheat Cents: Mercury Dimes: Silver Dimes: Buffalo Nickles: 1932-1959 Nickles: Standing Liberty Quarters: Silver Washington Quarters: Franklin Halves: Morgan Dollars: Peace Dollars: Basically I am looking for the price that you would pay per coin for a average circulated lot (not necessarily melt). I am sorry I am asking so much. Or, do you think this is a bad idea? I may need to sell some of them (turns out college is not cheap) so this is kind of an investment as well. If I do sell, how would you do it? eBay? What's successful? Thanks! and Happy Collecting!
Try coinflation.com they list the "melt value" for most US coins based on the silver market. Also if you decide to sell you might try this sites classified, section no Ebay or Paypal fees
As a collector, I wouldn't really want to melt them. Or is that really the only value of a non-key average circulated coin? Is that the price you personally buy at if you are buying in bulk?
You might want to get the Red Book of US Coins for the numismatic value of coins this value also will include the silver value As coins are melted for the silver value many now common coins will increase in value If you were to sell them I would suggest selling to a collector not a profiteer looking to make a quick buck off the silver content To me coins are objects of bueaty and should be collected as such
I forgot to try and answer your second question I have seen a number of sellers selling rolls of "bullion quality" silver coins usually they sell them somewhere around the price listed on coinflation.com at the time of sale I have bought a number of such rolls this way to put in the collection. A while back I bought 100 circulated Mercury dimes for $118 and 3200 wheats for $60
If I am getting just plain worn coins in bulk yes. Last week I picked thru hundreds of Merc's and got to pick out the semi's ike 17DandS , 18DandS, even 31S all for Melt. They are worn but not damaged. S
For circulated common date coins, indian cents: $1-2 possibly less wheat cents: $0.04-0.06 That has been my expience at least
