Not U.S. Or is it? From a shoebox of old family stuff, I set this aside for a rainy day. It rained today so I pulled it out for a second look. I just "feel" it is a fake something. Could this be a real coin...and if so.....what?
Here is a link for Chinese Coins with different regions, and lots of pictures: http://www.zeno.ru/showgallery.php?cat=501 and here is the main web site link http://www.charm.ru/ Good luck!
ThanX for the follow up In hand it feels "unsubstantial".....but I know nothing of a true example. And the strike seems tenuous. For all I know, that makes it genuine. It just happened to come to me through the family in a shoebox of stuff and I'm trying to sort out. Again. Thanks. I'll put it in a flip.
Perhaps you see it that way because there was no strike. I'm on the road, with none of my references available, but based on the ID and date a member whom I know to be very knowledgeable about Chinese cash coinage, I'm quite certain that you have a casting.
Thank'ye But this is actually one of the early struck cash. I know what you mean about it feeling "unsubstantial." Most of the late Qing coins feel odd to me, especially the struck issues.
