    Not U.S.

    Or is it?

From a shoebox of old family stuff, I set this aside for a rainy day.

It rained today so I pulled it out for a second look. I just "feel" it is a fake something.

Could this be a real coin...and if so.....what?

    hamman88 Spare some change, sir?

    It's probably Earth.

But seriously, it's Chinese. Often these coins are fake though.

    ThanX for the follow up

In hand it feels "unsubstantial".....but I know nothing of a true example.

    And the strike seems tenuous.

For all I know, that makes it genuine.

It just happened to come to me through the family in a shoebox of stuff and I'm trying to sort out.

Again. Thanks. I'll put it in a flip.

Perhaps you see it that way because there was no strike.

I'm on the road, with none of my references available, but based on the ID and date a member whom I know to be very knowledgeable about Chinese cash coinage, I'm quite certain that you have a casting.

Some cash coins were machine struck towards the end of their manufacture.

    Thank'ye

But this is actually one of the early struck cash. I know what you mean about it feeling "unsubstantial." Most of the late Qing coins feel odd to me, especially the struck issues.
