Silver dime, buffalo nickel, wheat cents, anything you find in circulation that's a good find. Post it here!
I found my first silver coin at a baseball field a while back when I was still in little league. It was a dime Also, my friend got a 1964 quarter in his change once. I and another coin collector got into a bidding war about it. I got it after a while of going back and forth Finally, I was looking through my great grandfather's bag of coins and found a no date standing liberty quarter! Even though it was well worn it was cool because it was my first one.
Back in 2009 when I was 14, I found a 1957 quarter in my pile of coins. I gave it to my mom and I said "Hey, mom, this is old, is it rare?" she said that her coin dealer gives her $2.50 for them, because it's made of silver. So she gave me the $2.50. Never really knew when quarters were made of silver, or if they ever where. Now, back to more finds! Today I found a 1954-S I need for my whitman folder.
I found both of these in pocket change a couple of days ago. They came out of an automatic change dispenser at a grocery store. 1944S Merc: 1967 Canadian Centennial Dime(.800 silver):
When I was in first grade I found a dime in the playground. It was 1964, so it must have been silver. I took it to the principal and he taped it to an index card and said if nobody claimed it by the end of the day, it was mine. I remember walking home with my older brother, holding that index card. The other kids gathered around to see it. The one kid said he never had that much money at one time. I spent it somewhere.
Too bad that wasn't inside the changers at my grocery store, I snatch up all the silver I see inside them. Beautiful dime nice find :thumb:
Thanks for mentioning that! I forgot about one other recent find from the same store. Last month I was staring at the coin dispenser and in the loonie ($1.00) coin slot I saw a shiny rounded coin just towards the bottom. I asked the cashier to give me ten loonies and that was enough to make that coin drop out. It was a 2009 Zachery Taylor dollar coin.
How do you snatch up the silver in the automatic change dispensers? Do you ask the manager? I've always wanted to do this.
I work at the store and I look at all the machines if one has a silver dime/quarter showing I will take it and replace it with a non silver dime/quarter coin from my pocket. I picked up 2 silver dimes this morning
Here are my favorite wheat cents I pulled from 5 boxes a few weeks ago. From Left: 1919 in About Good-3 condition, 1920D with Very Good-8 DETAILS, HEAVILY CORRODED, 1935S in Very Good-10 condition.
These are the circulated coins that are in my personal collection..... "Found" the Off Center 1894/1894 in Rick Snow's inventory. Found the 1864-L Reeded Edge on Ebay about 10-12 years ago. Also found the Indian cent gear/pie cutter on Ebay a few months ago. And a friend gave me the large cent pie cutter.
Hello all. This is one that didn't cost but a cent. (long ago) PCGS F15 This 1911 I came by at a farm aution. I was about ten years old and it was in a drawer of a dresser. I worried the person who won the item wouldn't appreciate it, so I liberated it. (marks on holder)
Got this one in change this weekend. Couldn't believe it! Received as change on 1/18/2013 in Staunton VA at a gas station on the way to a weekend ski trip. The gas station attendant said someone had brought in a roll of Buffalo Nickels. He was giving them out as change at face value.
I should have. We were in a hurry to get up to the mountain. I stopped on the way back on Monday, someone had cleaned them out. I kicked myself but someone else probably had fun.
