...one expensive coin? I'm talking one coin that you have always wanted but couldn't afford it. I've been thinking about doing that for a long time then starting a collection all over again, but I just can't pull the trigger, LOL. Would you consider it?
I don't have a big collection yet, but I don't think I could ever "pull the trigger" on selling it all.
I have pulled the trigger in the past not to buy another coin but for another reason. Sold everything, Walkers, Franklins, kennedys, Morgans, Ikes, SBA's, Indianhead cents, lincoln cents, Roosevelt dimes, everthing but the jefferson nickels I had and a few inexpensive odds and ends. I wish ebay had been around back then, the local coin dealer didn't due me right in my oppinion. But I pretty much stopped collecting anything for years just occasionally dabling here and there in the search for a set of Full Steppers which I didn't and don't think I could pull the trigger on.
Could never bring myself to do it... it was hard enough deciding to just spend the extra half dollars I ended up with searching through rolls, lol. Would prefer just to cut back on other luxuries for a while and save up for one.
Every coin BUT my Wheat Cent Collection Washington Quarter Collection and Proof Franklin collection... Yep--I would... Speedy
nick66 - I definitely think the idea has merit. Maybe not for one single coin, but I believe the concept of limiting a personal collection to a fairly low number of coins, maybe less than 20, or to a single set, is sound. I'll be most people would improve their collection if they had a limit. Sadly, I do not.
nope, I have a handful of coins that have far greater value to me based on their history in my family than they would be worth to anyone else. But the vast majority of my collection doesn't have those strings attached and I would sell it all to get something "great".
Hmm.. selling every coin in my collection? <shrug> .. well, that is my wife's job after she opens my "Do not open till I'm dead" coin collection spreadsheet."
I have never sold off my entire collection for one coin, but I have traded a significant amount for a single coin. It worked out well for both parties. He got a heck of a deal in value, and I didn't have to sell off a bunch of low value coins in piecemeal. I still think I got a good deal, and I would do it again.
I would. I don't know what that specific coin actually is, but Anaconda probably has it in stock. Actually, in the next month or so I'm going to divest myself of almost all my Morgans for that specific purpose. I want a DMPL Carson City coin.
I love some of the responses I got. Some say heck no, and some say they would, just as I figured. I would like to hear some more though. :smile
