OK this PCGS slabbed Trade Dollar on ebay looks great but the seller is from China with 0 sales (suspicious) http://cgi.ebay.com/PCGS-MS-63-1874...em&pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3f0080f3fc PCGS says the validation number is correct ... however could the seller have counterfeited the holder? http://www.pcgs.com/Cert/02420401.html It would be helpful is PCGS had a scan of the actual coin on their verification site. What do you all think? Is this just a great counterfeit?
PCGS holders have been counterfeited. Check out this thread, and the link to PCGS in one of the posts. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=57690
These are the sellers other items ... Counterfeit right? Amazing he's getting bids. http://shop.ebay.com/hepinghui2010/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340
I am far from an expert on this, but everything I see says it is real. I am told the reverse decal is very hard to copy and there are raised corners on the obverse.
I won't buy Trade dollars from unknown sellers, foreign or domestic sellers, slabbed or raw. Too many fakes, including fake slabs out there. While an Ebay seller based in China is one of the worst places to buy, the fakes are getting into other channels. If an Ebay buyer stuck with a fake slab, passes it at a flea market, the next guy selling on Ebay might be a domestic seller with what looks like a certified coin. Be careful out there.
in other words ... don't buy trade dollars! it's a shame as I've always wanted one ... but I would probably end up buying a fake.
its actually pretty good, would probably fool a lot of people, but it does have that "freshly minted" look. In the end all I would need to make a decision is "the seller is from China with 0 sales"
To me the coin looks more like a proof then a MS63. If it's real it's the nicest MS63 on the planet... RED FLAG China. RED FLAG Couldn't force me to bid on that one.
Thanks for all the feedback and thoughts! It's getting SCARY how good these fakes are getting ... They are to the point that I am clueless on what's a fake and what's real If some power seller got a hold of this ... and then tried to sell it ... i bet it would fetch top dollar (multi-thousands of dollars) Could this be the beginning of the end for coin collecting It's certainly taking me out of the buying market.
look at the corners of the slab they are not the right angle.they lost angle from the replication process.and the coin is too nice.
Seller from China with 0 sales and no feedback...my spider senses are tingling! You couldn't have forced me to bid on it before it got taken down.
:hail: Hi yall, Wish you guys would cop a pic instead of the link which is useless for those that did not see it. :rolling: Thanks for pointing it out anyway
Ah man, if that is a fake why I am collecting coins. I don't see anything there that looks fake. Care to point out what's wrong?
