I have my own website. I've got over 10, 500 photos on it. It's not free but it's more secure than any other site (it does not delete photos when it feels like), offers me unlimited space, and lets me pick and choose who I allow to see what I want. I do have the numismatic section locked but if I know you and you ask nicely via PM I will give you the password. The majority of the website is automotive related, with a large portion of it dedicated to my model building http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/
I have a 1/2 terabyte external hard drive that I use to hold my pictures and videos. I like it because it is portable and even though I may not have internet I can still veiw my pictures on my laptop or any computer for that matter. i do like the personal website though. How much did it cost do create and keep that going if you dont mind me asking
Another question. For those of you who have your own server, do you leave it running 24/7? (Okay, more than one question.) Is a server difficult to maintain? Is it correct to assume your server is to you as my ISP is to me?
A server is also connected to the internet. Everything you look at on the internet is hosted on a server somewhere. It's a basically a storage device for data that you control. So unless you plan on having your own major website... I wouldn't bother.
I've personally tried a lot of the free sites: many have a lot of ads, some you have to pay for. I just started using Shutterfly. The reason I like it is because I can have a whole collection of coins --> http://indiancenterrors.shutterfly.com/pictures/8 or I can just post a link to a single coin --> http://indiancenterrors.shutterfly.com/pictures/35.
Photobucket. I'm old so once I learn one thing, I stick to it or I'd forget what and where everything is.
Have never used CT to host an image. Do you have to edit the size before you try to upload it? Or will the upload adjust it's size as needed?
