Thanks,..look like a dealer behind his left shoulder is keeping his eyes on him. BTW who took that pic..we should have his mug shot...the schmuck
Yea, especially when your sporting a cheesie moustache like that...you stand out like a sore thumb:goofer:
I thought they took that photo down (they did on the CU forum). I took that picture with my cell phone when he was emptying his pockets for the security guard at the Santa Clara show. I even had his photos posted on my website for quite a while but I got sick of looking at his ugly mug so I finally took them off. I even called the Bakersfield DA after he was caught stealing again at the SC show, but she said since the SC dealer didn't press charges, they couldn't consider it in their case. When the DA was plea bargaining with him, I asked her to have not attending coin shows be included as part of any probation he got but she said they couldn't do that, so he's free to attend any show that will let him in. Oh well. At least most of the California coin dealers know what he looks like so hopefully they will be quick to get him ejected if they spot him - at least I will!
Privacy issues? I thought criminal records were public. You have had some working in the law, any ideas why?
I posted it on the CU forum with his name after he was convicted, but they removed it. I know his name and conviction are public record, but they have a right to allow/disallow any posts they want, same as here.
Charmy I don't know if this scum is likely to travel to the east coast but if you think there is even a chance then bring me his info at the WFOM and I will see to it that the info gets to the head of security. Richard
How can someone that old be so dumb for a couple of small coins? I mean, I understand a young new numismatist who doesn't know it's wrong but a man that old? Thanks for the pics. I feel like putting this on my site to let others know about this thief.
Let me understand this. :rolling: Those that CU SUSPECTS of counterfeiting get their names published and careers ruined before the trial, but a CONVICTED coin thief gates protected so they don't offend him. Yep, that makes perfect sense to me NOT:headbang:
Do you ever come to the big Atlanta, GA show? Just wondered. We have the same type people here, that do the same thing at shows, we try to place pictures of them out. I hope now the guy will wake up. It's sad. -O)
I disagree 100%. Stealing is stealing no matter what the age or experience. Just because someone is new to the hobby, most people are taught at a very young age that taking something that is not yours is wrong. There are two things in this world that I cant stand. I liar and a thief. Both of them are the scum of the earth. All a lier is is someone who just has not made it to stealing yet.
Here's the way I now have it scored..... The Always Lovely Charmy: 3 The Stupid Convicted Criminal: 0 Charmy has taken up the challenge and performed quite admirably....Way to go, Charmy! (Hey Convicted Loser....whats your mom cooking you for dinner.. in the basement?).
I have caught 140 shoplifters in the last year, it's tough work and kudos for taking up the fight in the coin world!!! Personally I think it is really big of you to act out of moral obligation, I'm paid to do what I do and it isn't fun at all!
What really hurts about all of this is the personal violation. You try to be nice and forthcoming, personal and friendly and somebody has to ruin your trust. It is really sad that the .01% ruin it for the other 99.99%. I just hate that entire ordeal.... In the photo the badge around his neck states "visitor", I'd let him into a show if he was willing to wear a badge that stated "convicted coin thief". (it's a family forum, trying to keep it tame)
Okay so I'm going to play the devil's advocate here. Kleptomania is a diagnosable and recognized mental condition. Maybe he does suffer from this affliction with a fixation on coins? So a)maybe he or the court system should establish whether he does have this condition in which case he deserves sympathy/pity or... b) he does not have the condition in which case hanging, drawing and quartering? (Sorry, I forgot but you Americans never did indulge in this form of punishment.)
