Photobucket seems to be the most popular site. I believe there's some other freebies out there too. But how many of you have checked with your ISP? Many allocate personal space to their subscribes for just this (and other) purposes. When I had Comcast they had something like 1GB of space that I could use. (Unfortunately Comcast had too many other problems for me to continue with them.) I switched to Verizon FIOS and they don't supply any space for this sort of thing (at least that's what they tell me). So I ended up with a pay site since I didn't want to deal with all the ads on the freebie sites. Plus if I ever get my act together I'll start creating small websites for my sets that aren't in the NGC Registry. I had my type set running at one time so I know I can do it. My XHTML would probably make a pro cringe but it worked. What do you use?
FIOS offers a mere 10 megabytes of Personal Web Space: http://www22.verizon.com/residential/fiosinternet/faq/faq.htm I've administered my own webserver for quite a while (currently at Rose Hosting), so when it comes to a simple photo repository, I'm the wrong person to ask.
I use ACDSee Pro 3 and host them on my computer. It cost me $170, but I don't consider that too expensive when you consider that I paid $3500 for my AutoCAD. I don't care to use Photobucket because of a bad experience I had about 6 years ago which I'm not at liberty to discuss. Chris
OT: benveniste, Took me a bit of work to translate your Latin but I think I've got it. I won't post what I came up with so that other can take a shot at it.
If I correctly understand the two responses so far, both of you have your own server (or whatever the correct term is). Interesting. I like it. But my limited computer use would never justify that solution.
Also interesting. But I don't understand how this works unless you have your own server. I have to go from my computer to some online storage site, THEN I can push the images out to CT or wherever.
kanga, there's several different ways to use CT to do it for you. You can upload any picture of yours direct from your computer and attach it to a post, as long as that picture is 250kb or smaller in size. That is done by using the Manage Attachments button below the posting box. See the pic at the bottom of my post for example. Or - you can use the album feature that CT has for every member, as the host for your pictures. Now you don't have any albums set up, I looked. But DOK does. This picture for example, is in one his albums - I posted it here in this thread by using the Insert Image icon at the top of the posting box. Both of these pictures are hosted by Coin Talk. There is no other server or service involved.
68 and I'm still learning. Not really a surprise. Technology and capability improve much faster than I would EVER be able to keep up with. I'll stay with my procedure even though it appears to involve an extra step because: - I often post the same image in several places, and, more importantly - it's what I understand But the responses have been a real eye-opener.
Doug, I still haven't figured out how I can load photos from a thread to my albums. I've tried experimenting with the 1883-CC toner that I posted a few weeks ago, but can't seem to figure it out. Can you help me, please? Chris
Easy, first right click on the image you want. Then click on Save Picture As, that wil allow you to designate the folder on your computer that you want to save the pic in. Once you have the pic saved on your computer, you can then upload it to one of your albums. You obviously know how to do that since you have pics in your albums. Just create a new album first, call it CT pics or something and save those images in that album.
True. But you can also just save links to pictures already posted in threads, like this one - or this one - I just right clicked on the images in the threads, got the Properties, and then entered that in the Insert Image icon dialogue box and presto - it's magic. There are lots of ways to handle images
Blush Blush~ Now everybody is going to know my love of being slabbed. I don't upload FROM a thread. I upload TO a thread. I accept the size limits but find using the "ADVANCED" option to upload enough to get my point across while seeking info here to to be wonderful. Example~ Could this be a 1909 LWC? Then I post a photo under 240K in size and get various opinions. Results may vary.:kewl: Sometimes the viewer must left click on the image to blow it all out of purportion////but it works for me.
I put my coin pics on flickr along with my other photo efforts. They have free accounts but I have a paid account because of the number of images. One of the advantages is that I can store large images there. When posting an image to another site it allows me to choose the image size that I'd like to use.
I use to just post pics using the "attachments" feature on CT but I now currently use Photobucket because it is easier for me and my pictures are bigger when I use Photobucket. Photobucket is the way to go IMO.
