Welcome to CT did you happen to get all of the 82'cents? I though i did until i got my album and there were 7 different for that year. Good luck on your search.
NEWTOCOINS2010, welcome to CoinTalk Erik. I'm way, way past 19 yrs. but I started with Lincoln Memorial Cents too. I bought the ' Red Book ' and read it, and read it, and read it, and still use it for reference. I've been fantastically lucky roll searching from $25 boxes. Some of us call em' "bricks". Sounds like you've done well too. You've come to the right place(forum). We love photos, scans, and pictures of coins and currency. Don't be afraid to ask questions. There is a world of knowledge here and people who want to share it. Make it fun and enjoy. zeke
Welcome to the forum from one cent collector to another. Some of the coins you are looking for out of circulation will be harder to find but be deligent and you will find them. I am trying to put together a set from circulation all the way back to 1909. I know the keys will be impossible but if I can get it down to a few coins, I think it will be a great accomplashment plus it gives me and my son something to do. Welcome to the forum.
Erik, I found a forty percent half in a twenty dollar half dollar roll from my bank the other day. It was a 1968 D. Don't give up! I have collected for a few years and love the hobby. It is one of the best in the world. Be careful when people overprice things. If you have questions just call a local dealer near to you. Or just ask an expert here. Wheat pennies are a cheap collectible thing but the key dates are EXPENSIVE! 1909-S, 1914-D,1931-S, and the 1909-S V.D.B. pennies are the key dates. 1955 double die is expensive as well as 1922 with no D mintmark. Watch out for fakes and alterations. vnickels
So I just went through my first box of cents! I found a 1974-S, but that's it from those that I needed. I also found 21 Wheats... Is that a good ratio? I've been through over $200 halves, but still no silver....
yes you can find silver in rolls of halves. Mostly the silver clads but I have gotten franklins and walking liberty coins too. If I collect baseball cards. I buy a pack and there are a bunch of no names in there and nothing worth a crap, I can't return the cards back to the store for full value. If you get $100 worth of halves and get no star players you still can get your $100 back.
So, how did you obtain yoru Franklins and Walking Liberties? Did you get just $10 rolls, or did you get a box?
from what I notice, you get about 1 wheat every 370ish or so. sometimes you get the motherload and get one every 100 to 200. other times a whole box and just one. I save all my wheats, I also look for nicer coins then what I have. so if im going through a box and spot a really nice 70 ill put it aside to check if I have one of equal quality. if not then I replace it. anyhow pick up the redbook. you will love it. I keep mine open when going through my boxes.
I pull 1 wheat per 100, on average, and that's usually a little better... Maybe I should give up on halves and go for wheats. Nah, I can't resist the siren call of silver!
Welcome Erik. Lots of good advice here already. I would suggest you also read the Frequently Asked Questions section of CoinTalk -- a lot of good information there, including by NationalDealer. Don't know if he or she is around any more but he posted a lot of valuable information there. Enjoy it.:smile
