Interesting episode, im surprised it was genuine. The value...WOW....

 

That episode reminded me of BNB.

 

I've seen that episode like 300000 times.

 

I really do not watch TV very often, so could somebody please tell me what the value was, and if he sold it to them, and if so for how much? Thanks in advance for your cooperation...

i don't understand how people seen the episode before? it was suppose to be the start of the new season...

maybe they are just getting another episode confused with this one. i think there was one with a doubloon.. maybe they thought this coin was a doubloon?

I missed it as tonight was my model club meeting. Instead of reairing the new episode, at 12:30 they ran a repeat from a previous season.

Luckily, they repeat them often enough that I am sure I will see it, and Cablevision offers some of the episodes Free on Demand so if all else fails I could possibly catch it on there.

My brother and I really enjoy watching it, even if some of the offers given for stuff borders on absurd.

BTW, only in the desert would you see a store called "Paddle Tire King"!

 

It is genuine, with a value of $18,000 and Rick bought it for $11,000.

 

I understand profit margin, but if I heard from an expert that a coin I had was worth $18K I would not sell it to a pawn shop for $11K. Granted that the seller may need to pay get it graded and then auction it off, but that would no way cost near $7K. He could have also shopped it around a bit. TC

 

He was asking $2k before it was authenticated. After told it was worth $18k, Rick offered $10k and he said he'd walk, and that's how he got the extra $1k outta Rick. Still stupid, I would have had it slabbed and put on HA.

 

All pawn shops pay out half of what they appraise the value of the item to be ..... or even less than that if they can get away with it. We of course know we can get it sold for more through an auction company. Most people on this planet don't want to put in the extra legwork to get full price. I hate getting ripped off so I don't even visit pawn shops. I equate them with payday loans (240% interest) and rent to own furnature. But I'm sure they provide a service because I see them all over.

 

people got to realize you can't go into a pawn shop and expect to get even close to full value for an item. they have to sit it on there shelves and pay the rent, bills, and employees. yea, some things like this coin may be able to sell fast at an auction but most things will sit for a few months. a pawn shop is a way to sell your item no matter what, real quick. its a good service if you are in need of fast money. i also get good deals buying things at the one around here. i never have sold anything there. but if i needed money fast enough, its nice to know i can.

them rent to own furniture and appliances places are rip offs. they just put one in my town, and i always complain about them. how they can charge $600 for a $200 xbox 360 is beyond me. the only people who would buy there, either have bad credit or don't have the money to buy an item up front. they try and hide the full cost, with weakly payments. $12 a week, don't sound like much to most people. but thats $46 a month for a year on an item that has the value of $200.

i actually get mad, when people tell rick they want what the expert says. like rick and the old man run some sort of charity..

 

I would have been happy with the 11k. He only wanted 2,000. The coin was appraised for 18 grand. Rick gave 11. Because of his fame, Rick has the assets to pay that much. I don't think any coin dealer or pawn shop within a hundred miles from me would pay even half that much. How could they? Not many people have 11 grand laying around blow on a coin. Rick had an expert come in because he wasn't sure it was real. Wouldn't anybody interested in it have the same fear? Is this guy gonna carry a video of the show to show anybody that is interested in it?

Like I said in the other Pawn Star thread, this is a television show. Who says the stuff they do is even real or just acting. I have never heard a pawn dealer calling in an expert. These experts don't do it for free. Who's gonna pay for an appraisal with the chance of not even getting it? There are at least two experts on each show. If these guys charged 100 bucks a pop, a regular pawn store is going to go out of business real quick.
