The vast majority of Chinese, Japanese and Korean cash coins have reverse designs, and a diameter of ~24mm. 100 cash coins typically measure 35mm or more. I can't find any reference in Krause to cash coins with colored lacquer, and the characters on this one don't seem to match up with any of the illustrations. Soooo, what is this 3g, 25mm milled brass coin, with no upset rim on the blank reverse
My first guess would be it is a pattern or die trial. Every other country I ever heard of makes them - no reason the expect the Asian countries to be any different Of course I know next to nothing about these coins. But I can tell you that the the worlds first piece of folding currency was produced in China in 118 B.C. if memory serves. It was a 40,000 cash note And it was printed on piece of white deer skin
