Artistic quality of recent coin designs criticized

    Thanks for the discussion, all.

While I lament some of the poor designs from the Mint, I also appreciate the designs that I do consider artistic. I agree that the Sac native american dollar is an underrated coin. I also agree that the eagle reverse is the best, but I do appreciate the new reverses each year too. The current year with the belt and arrows is an excellent design with great balance and fills out the entire coin. I ordered ten rolls through the direct ship program and I'll probably order another shipment this year. I like using them for tips and small purchases, like coffee. Whenever I spend one, the cashier or waitress always looks at it and marvels at how pretty it looks. They do look great when they're shiny new....... not so great when they start to tone into that brown color. But I hardly ever see that because they don't circulate!!!

I don't like the date being moved to the edge. That's strange. Every other coin has the date on the obverse. I guess you can tell the date from the reverse design, but doesn't the date wear off on the edge? Did the Mint think about this? Oh well, it's not a problem because...............they don't circulate!!!!!!!!!!

The designs will be tested through the test of time. I hope Director Moy can start living up to some of his claims.

    Have a great day, y'all.

I have said this before, but I rather like the Presidential Dollars.

This is the 1st time I've seen all 12 at the same time. Several of them look very similar to each other. Van Buren kills me...

Does Zach Taylor look a little like Capt. Kirk? Just adding my 2 cents!

Mabe, maybe not. I know on the old lettered edge large cents and bust halves the edge is typically legible on coins down to AG. But those coins didn't have to contend with vending machines. Of course right now the dollar coins aren't having a lot of trouble with that either.

****, if only I could get into US congress... I'd write a bill that stipulates that nobody besides Liberty can be on a US coin intended for circulation. I'd lift all other restrictions on coinage, especially related to the artistry of coins. I'd force Moy's resignation while I was at it, too.
