First box of pennies I've ever looked through (25$)

    Found:
    16 Wheats: Oldest 1937
    10 Canadians: With 2 1946's!!
    4 S Mintmarks (Modern)
    1 Dime
    6 Fillers
    5 LP's from 2009
    751 Coppers :)

So 30.04% of the box was copper
and .64% was wheat, and .4% was Canadian.

    Not too shabby!

well found a magnifying glass and some good old natural sunlight.

looked through my possible DD's from this last box

and one 69's has a fatter 9 then the rest,

and a 72 dd in "in god we trust" word "trust" is a bit fatter then the rest of the coins

going to look through my other saved ones now.

Went through the dollar coins I picked up and didn't find anything interesting, although it's certainly possible I missed stuff. Honestly I was pulling my hair out since the presidential coins seemed to vary so much with what they had on the obverse. I don't think I'll be buying the other $1300 they have rolled at the bank.

  5. Very interesting Ltrain, can't really tell that from the pictures...or at least I didn't last night when I looked at it. I've never seen a clad so worn before, and almost everything I see is clad! I wish I had found it...you are lucky! (Yes, I am weird to think it's cool)

I finally dug out a roll of 1970 S that I needed to sort. I cannot see well enough even with a loupe to distinguish the large dates from the small ones. I put them all on a scanner and took a scan hoping to be able to see it. Some look like they might be different, but I can't tell. LOL

The banks I went to yesterday were out of rolled coins except for the 4 rolls of nickles I posted yesterday evening. Just 1 - 1940 and 1 - 1946.

Hopefully Tuesday morning we can get some coins ?

Tuesday? What's wrong with Monday?

They didn't have any rolled coins at all at two banks I visited. I figure they will get shipments on Monday, so Tuesday is more likely not to be a bust. Since I don't drive any more, I don't want to put the wife out too much. Especially if it's a bust !

Besides, my eyes need a rest from trying to find the 1970 S small dates. LOL

I have a buddy in Florida who I was able to convince to start searching halves and he talked his father in Michigan into doing it as well. They both had great days on Friday.

Buddy in Florida got $30 in loose halves from the bank, of which, 44 were 40% and 2 were 90% (Franklins).

His father on the same day purchased $90 in CWR and ended up with 48 Walking Liberties, 32 Franklins, 1 '64 and 1 40%.

He sent me a photo of their haul from their brief road trip that includes those coins so I'll see how to post.

wow they both had some luck, especially dad!

i need to stop coming into this thread, it just upsets me thinking would could be, if i ever find a place with halves... i am going to send me girl into the banks today and see if she has better luck. i will tell her to go to the guy tellers. maybe, a petite 20 year old brunette will score some halves..

They're finding them by just hitting lots of banks and buying whatever is loose or from customers. My buddy in Florida can't find a bank that is willing to order boxes of halves for him yet. I would just take a few minutes to stop and ask at the bank(s) every so often.

WoW ! Beginner's Luck, or what ? LOL Good for them. I guess it's kinda like fishing. They don't call it "catching". I have gotten zip for the last 2 months, but I guess I will be all the more excited if I finally do find something. I am going again tomorrow for whatever rolls are available and $10 Cents.

May it be your lucky day !
Make sure not to pass up the special coins that you may not actually be looking for. I have found that after examining coins and then setting them aside for a while and then doing more research in the CherryPickers' book , it makes it much easier to know what to look for when I go back and re-examine those same coins. Less eye strain too:)

here is the photo of the haul. There are a few more kennedy's in there from their searches but the walkers and franklins were the good part.

$25 from a small local bank are all duds. Buncha really nicely toned Bicentennials too... also got a whole bunch of Ike dollars from them, which are in nice shape, but nothing special. Stuff for my employees (And I) to give away in change!
