Since the US Mint has discontinued the fractional Gold Eagles, is it possible they would scrap the whole Eagle program together if metal prices get way out of hand, like over $3000 oz for Gold and $100 for Silver?
If prices got that high, I think the Feds would see to it that 50-100 million ounces got dumped into the market all of a sudden. Chris
Say what??? Fractional AGEs go on sale this week, June 10th. Only the Proof and Uncirculated AGEs (including fractional AGE coins) with W mintmarks have ceased being minted. Eventually the eagle programs will end. They may or may not be replaced with other programs. The end of these programs will one day occur. I feel this will turn collector demand on bullion gold and silver eagle coins, thus they will develop a numismatic value and interest as collectible coins whereas now many see them only as bullion.
I've always been curious to know how much the Mint charges the institutional bullion dealers for the Green Monsters. Does anyone know? Chris
