Hello all, I was given my wife's late grandfather's coin collection to sell. It isn't much but grandma asked me to see if anything in there was worth more than face value. There are a few that I already know are, and a few I'm not sure of. Are any of the following coins worth more than face value, assuming circulated but reasonable condition? (And forgive me, I don't know a thing about coin nomenclature, so if I describe them poorly please let me know). Eisenhower Dollars - 1971 - 1974 JFK Half Dollars - 1964 - 1972 Susan B Anthony Dollars - 1979 Walking Liberty Half Dollars - 1936, 1944 These are some of the more common coins. There are some less common coins that I may need help with identification and valuation once I'm able to scan/photograph, but I though I'd start here. Thanks for any help.
1964- 90% silver 1965-1970 40% 1936,1944 depends on condition the others depends on condition again and welcome to CT
Thanks for the info there, I've scanned in some of the coins so that maybe I can get information on what they are and how much they're worth. Should be easy for a bunch of coin ninjas like y'all. Any comments or information on the coins or their value would be greatly appreciated! Here are the walking liberty half dollars: I'm not sure what these are called, "Liberty Dollars"? Franklin Half Dollar: Other assorted coins; buffalo nickels, indian head cent, (well worn) 1909 quarter? I don't know what these dollars are called. Here's a weird one. It looks like copper in the picture but it's gold colored. It looks like someone sanded the back down and engraved KM in a weird design. It looks engraved as opposed to stamped to me...??? Thanks for any help.
some are a little better grade than silver value alone,the weird one is a gold piece,someone might buy it for a small premium over the gold value for the engraving.but if not its still gold value.it originally was used as a pin,the metal pin was removed.
The walking liberties see about 5-8 dollars per in that condition, same goes for the Franklin. The peace dollars, (you called them liberty dollars) go for a minimum of melt value, which is currently about 13 dollars for a silver dollar. Typically I see peace dollars sell in the 15-18 dollar range for the condition yours are in. The buffaloes are worthless without a date. The penny about 3-5 dollars. The Morgan silver dollars, the 1886 is common and you would see around 18-20 dollars for it, the 1892 O is a little more desirable and would bring you about 25-30 dollars. These values are just from my own experience, so take it as you will. These are the prices i tend to come across for these particular coins. Coins are only worth what you can get someone to pay for them so you could get more or you could get less.
Where would be the best place for me to try to sell these? The only place I could think of is eBay. Thanks again for all the help!
Check to see if your town has a coin dealer or if there is a coin show going to happen sometime. If you are selling them on Ebay, remember that there will be fees involved, whether the items sell or not.
As someone else mentioned, the "weird one" is a gold coin. It's been seriously messed with, but it might qualify as a love token, which would be collectible in its own right.

The "Liberty Dollars" are called Peace dollars, and the other dollar coins you didn't know about are called Morgan Dollars. The gold coin at the bottom i dont know about, but some values can be found at www.numismedia.com
Consiter setting one aside. Just a suggestion~ Consider setting aside one coin for you wife to have as a keepsake from her Gramps. Just lay them all out on a table and have her pick one. Post a scan of the one she picks. Talk a bit with the folks here about it. Soon you will have your ten posts, you can list them here for others make offers towards.....but be careful. By then she may want to keep two.....
