I was really interested in this, but it looks like the scratches on it are stopping me. What do you all think? Henryhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180513441332&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_600wt_1139 Do you think it would crossover? It has some nice toning and color to it. IMO
I wouldn't buy it. It is a nice one, but the hairlines are distracting, probably from a cleaning, and it might have been dipped, because from the pictures the luster doesn't look complete. I'd want better pictures of the coin, and with that being said, I just wouldn't buy it.
What makes you say that? Even from the slab view a few inches away from the camera it looks like they are on the coin. You really think those hairlines are on the holder? If they were you would see more scratches on the holder in the view I was talking about, a few inches that shows the coin and the slab.
That's what concerned me. I really want one but I am going to hold off a while. Until one comes around thats nice to the eye even if the grade isn't this high. Do you think it should be in a cleaned slab.
Yes, I think the coin should be at an AU50-55 Details grade. Without the cleaning I might have graded the coin at an AU58, very little wear do I see, but then again, not that great of pics either.
IT's good for the grade INMO, The 1854 is known for having die polish lines, and that could be what you're seeing as scratches, it's a nice coin and i could probaly see it go to a 58
This coin, IMO looks like it has been cleaned, explaining the hairlines and then dipped, explaining the breaks in the luster. I agree with you on one hand, I would grade the coin at a 58, but the hairlines, in this case, are affecting the grade, I think it should be in a details holder, lower than a 58. Can you find an example of an 1854 with some die polish lines in an AU grade? Who knows, I may be wrong on this one. :smile
DOn't have a pic readily available. and i will admit i could be wrong, however as it is in an ANACS holder i wouldn't worry about it. Just me though
I agree with the grade it has and the holder it's in. Probably cleaned. Nice cracks. Some of what look like marks are probably distortion from the plastic.
