Impulse Buy: Stupid move or not?

Are your bills paid ? Kids & Family fed ?If so, then it's no biggie. Money comes and goes because once our needs are met we use it to get the things we want. And the coins now have an established value. You can always sell them or borrow against them. So you really are not out much at all. IMHO

You might have gotten a better price had you waited a bit...but it's a beautiful set and you never know what might happen with the first year coins.

I got all the Silver state quarter sets NGC PF70UCAM (some from ParadiseMint)...except for the 1999 set which I have in NGC PF69UCAM. I don't recall paying over $100 for any of the sets, but I may have for the 2001 set. I had to spend a lotta time lurking around the auctions to get those prices, though.

Are these coins some great investment? ...nope, but I really like the coins and that's all that matters to me. I plan to put together the Silver ATB set NGC PF70UCAM, also.

When I make impulse buys, after I try to understand why or what was the impetus for the impulse, from what you have written here, if it had been me this is how I would have analyzed my impulse.

I would have thought that the atb quarters are probably going to be much lower mintage than the state quarters, so there is the possibility that they will be rarer and drive more of a premium than the state quarters. Of all the mints silver issues, the one that is selling for a good premium still are the first year of the state quarters, this may be history repeating itself.

Also as a sort of rationalization, be sure to catch a few of those teevee coin shows, they are sure to be offerring ms-70 atb quarters, you can chortle at how much less you paid than those who bought from the show, plkus yours will be silver while others will probably pay more for the clad ones.

 

Both love and sometimes marriage are "impulse buys."

Sometimes they work out. Sometimes they don't.

The keys to successful "impulse buys" are long preparation and thorough knowledge of the subject. :secret:

Maybe you'll luck out. Look at some of the prices for pr70 silver state quarters. $169 could look like a bargan soon. Heck, it's only $169.

Man, I do not think it possible to be prepared or glean thorough knowledge when you consider marriage. I have been married to the same gal for nearly half a century and I still confess complete ignorance on the subject. Some things are literally beyond comprehension due to the lack of consistency of it's existence. IMHO

I dont think anyone on here has not overpayed for something at one point or another. I am addicted to the bidding war myself and find it hard to stop bidding sometimes. IMO as long as the house isnt forclosed and the kids college fund is intact the rest is a learning curve called life.
