Went out today and bought a few early coppers. One is a Fugio; It is holed. While examining it, I determined that it was only very recently holed! The insides of the bore are still copper bright shiny, while the rest of the coin has its patina intact... crazy. I have not attributed it yet.
$25 and a good home.. everybody's happy. (Why someone would bore a hole in it recently is, well, hard to understand)
Yes, indeed. That was basically my motivation at posting it (there isn't much attractive about it)... Just the total craziness, considering this day and age...
i would have got it for $25 as well. i just don't understand why people put holes in coins! not counting my seated half dime love token, because, well i guess i understand why they did it back in the day. i have over 25 coins with holes punched in them! most of them were world coins that i rescued off a bracelet.
You partially answered your own question. People put holes in coins, because they may not know of their value, and to make them go to good use for them, they simply make them into jewelry. Or if their value is low they will make them into jewelry.
It's a no brainer. Of course you buy it for $25. It wouldn't be the first ugly coin I owned. But it would be my first Fugio. Bruce
