1942 Jefferson Clipped Planchet

Was going through my horde of pre64 Jeffersons pulled from circulation and came across this one. I know it's not much but it's my first clip.

I'm not one for clips but these seems to have been post mint. Looks
as if the coin was ground along something?

 

If it were a clip, wouldn't you see the rim taper outward where the area is missed by the upsetting mill? This looks like PMD to me, too.

Nah, that's a clip... has all the signs... minor clip but a clip nonetheless... Nice find...

 

I don't know if it's a real clip or not but that's a war nickel without a mint mark. That's a bit strange b/c I thought all war nickels have mint marks, what's up with that?

 

They made the 42 in a war nickel alloy and a 42 that was not a war nickel in the regular alloy.

 

Not all 42s were war nickels. And I gotta call it inconclusive. I don't see a Blakesley effect, and there's too much wear to see how the metal flowed around the possible clip.

Looks like the real deal to me. Just alot of wear leading people to believe its PMD...
