Hey everyone! This has been bothering me the last hour. Does this coin look like it may have been encased or bezeled and worn? All suggestions Welcome! Thanks. :)

Looks like a 'groove' around the rim. If this were a planchet error the upsetting process would have smoothed it out.
Conversely, how would the upsetting process cause the groove to form.

During the striking process I can't see how the groove would occur.

I'm 100% in the camp of PMD since I can't figure out how that damage would occur during any phase of the minting. Not to mention, it happened 66 years ago. If it were an error, wouldn't there be other coins it would have happened to during that run? I don't know of any.

How did it happen? Not sure. Could be a variety of different ways. From some kid in shop class to a bezel for jewelry, like you said. Yep, I'm still going with PMD.

I say it was encased and then taken out.

I agree that it was encased in one of these.

These are fun to find. With some holder designs part of the design gets struck into the rim of the coin.
