    Box lull continues

3 boxes (1 Brinks, 2 Strings) this week yieled 1 1968 half. The same bank I picked up one of the boxes at had 4 CWR and they contained 6 40%'ers.

Strings boxes are the perforated ones, right?

Brinks usually come in a "cube" box stacked 2 rolls high. Strings come in a "rectangular prism" stacked one roll high with the holes in them to see all the rolls.

Yep, that's what I was talking about. Brinks are obvious, cause it says Brinks on the wrappers... I think once you start seeing the Strings boxes, that means you're burning through Brinks' supplies?

I dont really think so i think it just means your burnin through the company your bank uses supplies of brinks halves.

Man, I would jump all over that ! Say you don't find anything at all, the teller still took the time to call you. When someone does that, I think it's a very bad move to shine them on. All you have invested is some time, and you might even find something worth having or selling. But, that's just my opinion.

    $500 Brinks box got me a '64 and a '67, both P's.

BTW, Yacorie, definitely worth it... just take, say, $200 for starters, and if it's good, take the rest.

Like Ltrain said, buy at least some and make sure you thank them for taking the time to call you.

I second that opinion. If they turn out to be nothing, you still have the same amount of money that you started out with. If they're not collectable, just redeposit them in your account later or spend them.

    Sunflower,

Personally I keep anything 49 and older. but thats just me.

    Helpmeplease,

Why would you handle a coin without a glove? unless your planning on melting it down I cant only see harm coming from handling it without one.

Maybe you could take half now, telling the teller that you will be back tomorrow or the next day for the rest. So you go through them all weekend, cash them in and go for the rest of them on Monday ? Only ties up $500.

I always thank them for calling me and I also go and pick up all the half dollars when they call. I guess my question is what would I even be looking for. With the presidential dollars, the only thing(s) there are to look for is the error coins correct? My plan was to stop by today on the way home and grab a few $100 for the reasons everyone stated but I don't know if I'm going to look at each coin for errors to be honest.

As to the dollar coins, are they big or small? if the former, then I'd get them, if the latter, then probably not. I don't think trying for 1981s would be worth the effort.

Did another box of pennies. 11 wheaties. Oldest 1924. All beat to H*ll. Fewer coppers in this batch...maybe 25%. Plus, a dime!

They are all in wrappers so I'm assuming they are the newer, smaller ones, presidential and sacagawea dollars. If they were big coins, I'm guessing the tellers would already own them.

I checked the F-S varieties list and it shows only the 1979 P & 2000 P varieties along with some S (proofs). I would not trust that though, because they don't show the IKE "types". This sounds like a fun project. Too bad I can't help you search. LOL

    Good luck

So We went to a bunch of different banks today looking for half dollars. We found 6 40% silver halves a 1974 S, 2002 S, and a 2008 D. At the last bank we stopped at we got 5 brand new rolls of half dollars. We got 2 rolls of 2008 P, 1 roll of 2008 D, and 2 rolls of 2009 P. Are these worth anything??
