Correct me if I am wrong but if I have my bank order more than $10000 in coins to search through they are going to drop the dime on me under the Bank Secrecy Act? Has anyone run into this? I have had one filed on me once because I purchased a cashier's check with cash. I have read that the bank does not have to tell you if they file one. How do I find out?
$5,000 per Suspicious Activity Reporting Overview page 67 of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Examination Manual. Yep, $5,000 now. Ask a teller, they _cannot_ tell you it is $5,000!
Unless you have made special arrangements with bank management to violate federal law and risk the bank's license to do business, assume that the report has been filed.
$10,000 in coin is a lot of coin. It would just look funny loading all that into a minivan or better yet a black suburban with tinted windows and the armed guards dressed in black with sunglasses and earpieces that are attached to nothing.
