I started collecting a couple of years ago mainly pulling out radars and interesting numbered bills when I happened upon a mismatched serial number. Since then, I've found several in different denominations as well as other errors. All were pulled from circulation. (Btw they're all Canadian.) Enjoy! The first two are $5 bills with mismatched prefixes APF/APE: This is a $10 bill with a mismatched serial number: This is a $20 bill with a mismatched serial number: This is a $20 bill with 3 digits mismatched: This is a $20 bill with a missing digit (you can see the bottom of the digit above the blank area): This is a $20 bill with a dropped digit:
Those are very cool, nice finds. Have not found anything like that in American dollars but I have seen them online.
Maybe the machine operators were issued with some form of antifreeze ration during those long cold Canadian winters! A nice collection. Probably missed some in my early years of collecting but I've never come across a single error on any note!
I've been pretty lucky finding these. On my Canadian paper money forum, some members have been searching for years without success. I had one more mismatched serial number bill (my first) that I sold for more than catalog value and I kind of wish I had kept it.
I recall there being someone else reporting on mis matched SN on Canadian note in the $20 denoms...those are pretty cool finds..makes you wonder about quality assurance huh? Regards, RB
I can't recall when that was (I can't find the thread) but there was a fellow from B.C. that had one with the ELN prefix that had all the numbers mismatched. I directed him to the Canadian money forum for further information. I believe he has it consigned out and it was posted on ebay for $10,000 or so.
great finds, only wish I could find some bills here in the States that are mismatched like these. Congrats!
