Found a bunch of coins encased in plastic with this weird writing on it. They appear to be gold. Are these worth anything?

Just a filler. I'm looking for about 1/2 dozen of them or so. If you have extras just pm me, I'll take 'em off your hands. I'll even chip in for the postage.

As stated on the label, you have a moderately high-grade $20 gold piece, graded by one of the two top third party grading companies.

I'm neither a US coin collector, nor a fan of the graders, but I don't see any "weird writing":

Top line - date and denomination
Second line - Initials of Professional Coin Grading Service, and the grade they give the coin: Mint State 64 (in the Sheldon scale, which goes from 60 to 70 for uncirculated coins.
Third line - Description of the coin's variety (Apparently that year there were similar coins minted with and without "In God We Trust)
Fourth line - Designation of the coin's identification in the PCGS system
Last line - The specific ID number of that coin as registered by PCGS
The bar code is based on the registration number.

I think you have to take it out of the plastic to spend it.

Best bet for that is to put it in the driveway and run it over a few times.

If that doesn't work, try smashing it with a brick or large rock, then as a last resort you can always melt it.

Those three methods have never failed me.

??????Am I missing something here? that is a $20 GOLD piece graded by pcgs and you are telling him to spend it???? This is either sarcasm or
you guys are crazy......I would happily buy it for more than $20

    (pcgs lists it at $2,260)

He doesn't have to spend it, but just get it out of that bulky plastic thing.

Way to bulky to carry around in his pocket like that, and who knows when he may forget his wallet and need a quick 20.

$20 is $20, especially in this economy. But no store is gonna take it looking like that.

Plus, thats gonna jam the coinstar if he tries, even with a bunch of other coins.

    Coinstars are great.

I use them when I'm tired of looking at my coins. Takes all of the ones I've tried too, even tried a whole plastic container of old dimes and quarters with a few weird looking halves mixed in.

You'd be suprised, it might take it.
