Crap quality pics, but I'm interested in hearing what you guys think this would grade at, and what it's worth. I'm thinking XF40 or thereabouts? Which would make it worth about $1500 or so?

It's gonna be tough to get better pics for about two weeks. I'll post them up as soon as I possibly can, though.

I'm thinking it's just washed out. It's definitely real, though.

I agree, and from the looks of things harshly so. With those pics hard to say for sure but that would definitely be my guess.

So assuming it's been cleaned, how badly does that impact the value? It's still a fairly low number mintage with only 24k made.

Don't have the coin in hand, so no. It's up for sale at an estate, however I wouldn't be able to get to look at it until the 17th, so I'm trying to have the sellers take better pictures of it. Emailed them yesterday evening, so... Waiting to hear back.

Look up cleaned examples on Heritage - they'll have some. That will give you and idea of the value.

Now compare the way the coin you posted looks to problem free XF examples. Then me what YOU think.

Much better pics have arrived! Not sure on the coloring, still, but the details look much better.

My opinion has only been reinforced by the new pics.

Let me ask you, what would you pay for this coin? Or would you not buy it at all?

That's a tough question. When I was still collecting I bought the occasional problem coin. But only when it was a coin that I knew I would likely not see problem free at a price I could afford, if at all. And only when it was at a bargain basement price. Problem coins are just not the way to go 99 out of 100 times.

What I would do in this case is to look for a lower grade, problem free example. Or - save my money until I could get a problem free one in the grade you want. You'll be much happier in the end.

I agree with Doug. Unless it's really cheap I'd pass.

Well, I'm thinking "buy, slab, and flip for a profit" type deal.

Good luck with that. Buy lottery tickets, you got a better chance.
