If it's real and theres a good chance it is not then 2k. Post a picture or two and we'll help give you an idea if it's real. And if it's in "good" As "good" to you might be extra fine which brings that baby up to 8k Welcome to the forums btw.
It is real. I have a dealer wanting to buy the coin. He rated it as "good". He offered 2125. I feel the coin might be worth more. I do not know how to rate them.
if you can post a picture you may get a few more responses. if you are not able you can compare your coin at this site http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/ you may get in the ballpark
If a dealer is willing to buy it at $2125, chances are it's worth more. Gotta post pictures so you aren't/wouldnt jipped from what looks like a good deal. Also, if it is real, even if you need money I would keep it since it is a key date (if I recall correctly).
Lowest mintage of all of the Morgans - 100,000 - and the most often counterfeited. It would be best to have this coin authenticated and certified by either NGC or PCGS. According to QDB, the optimal collecting grade is VF since this coin was heavily circulated in the old west. Chris
If you are entertaining the $2125 offer, perhaps show the coin to a couple of other dealers in order to see what there best offer is on the coin. If it is honestly in good-4 condition the last one to sell on eBay sold for $1776 in a grade of NGC Good-4. It seems the dealers offer is a bit high which makes me suspicious that your coin could be in a higher grade. Here is the eBay link for the completed listing so you can compare your coin to the one which sold. http://cgi.ebay.com/1893-S-Morgan-D...em&pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item414f8103ba
I agree with Jon, Very suspicious. BTW thought I'd mention that this is my good buddy Jon who is so knowledgeable he can almost give me a run for my money -Russ
Thats auction price from 22 bids. A little different from 1 person offering $2125, and no one else to out bid unless the OP takes the coin to another dealer to see what their offer would be.
It's not a question of the coin being real, only that the dealer has given a fair grade of the coin. If you post some pics of the coin some of us can give you our opinion on the grade, or you can compare the grade the dealer gave with http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/# and see if the dealer is correct or not.
