I have been taking a bit of a look at Feuchtwanger Cents lately... Do any folks know if there were multiple obverse and reverse dies used in the production of these private tokens? There seems to be some significant differences among the various specimens that I have observed; most especially on the obverse eagle device, and the reverse ONE.

Any guidance / input would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

Yes, there were multiple obverse and reverse die pairs used in production of these pieces. I don't know the exact number and do not have the reference material at hand, but I believe the obverse dies were given number designations and the reverse dies were given letter designations.

I think you would need Rulau's catalog of Hard Times Tokens for more info.

Thanks for the links. The second link has confirmed my curiosity regarding the various differences with the eagle's head and wings separations.

There are several differences. Not just the eagle.
One of the common ones the snake has a "blob" a little ways down from the neck like this one.

Also some differences on the writing on the reverse.

Thanks... I saw a specimen up for bid on Fleabay, and noticed its 'E' in "ONE" looked quite like a "digital" squarish 8. Is that also a known difference? That particular aspect was what led me to start noticing differences in various specimens...
