Its my understanding that the actual graders cannot know any background information about the coin at all. If your crossing over or upgrading apparently the grader has no idea what the other/previous grade of the coin was.In the OP's case the grader did not take the coin out of the original package therefore he would have no idea that it had no chance of being harshly cleaned. If would have taking it out than he would have known. I never believed the graders had no previous knowledge until this thread. Apparently they really do things like they say they are going to.

How is it a fraud when that is exactly what I sent it in for? Do you know what an appearence review is? If a coin ends up getting corrossion or anything else while in their holder they want you to send it in so they can either conserve it or replace it. I sent the coin in fully expecting it to either be fixed or replaced, they replaced it with a similar coin as per their guarantee guidelines, how is doing exactly what they said they would do and exactly what I expected them to do a fraud?

Now that part I agree with, even though I knew there would be a chance of them finding a replacement for it they did not tell me they were going to do that for sure to make sure that is what I wanted to do. They should have said we can't fix it do you want us to replace it. But knowing that was a possibility it didn't really bother me. I don't think you are being rude, I just don't think you understand the process for an appearance review.

I understand what the appearance review is.But i read that you felt they are going to conserve it and then resell it. Wouldn't it have been easier to just conserve it and send it back to you.Shouldnt replacing it be the last option? I feel if they cant conserve the coin they should send it back with the one they replaced it with. then everyones mind will be at ease

I don't remember saying that, but that would be a fair assumption of what they would do, if they could. I don't see anything wrong with that, what are they supposed to do with the replaced coin? Melt it down? I think they tried for several weeks to fix it while they were looking for a replacement they realized it couldn't be fixed so they sent the other one.

Okay you 2 maybe you guys should just start pm each other.

Back to the topic at hand.
Well I got the coin in hand today and I agree with NGC grading.
The coin has a big spot on the rev most likely from the mint wash.
I will try and post pictures later.

You agree that it's considered cleaned even if it's all done at the mint?
I dont know if I can go that far. None of it was Post Mint so how the mint does it is how it's done and that can and should affect the grade but not to make it a "cleaned" coin IMO

No you don't understand at all, which is what I figured.

They, NGC, didn't do anything with fraud as the intent. And cncman did not claim that they did. That's why I asked you if you understood what he was talking about.

It's like this, cncman had a coin that turned in the slab. So he sent it in under the grade guarantee. Now NGC has the option to either replace your coin that turned in the slab with another, different, coin of the same grade - or pay you the value of the original coin.

In this case, NGC opted to give cncman a different coin of the same grade. That's all there is to it. And yes, this happens all the time. It is not unusual at all.

GDJMSP is right: Dimefreak really needs to try understanding and comprehending what is being said before posting.

He just got confused as we all have from time to time. It's easily done.

And kaosleeroy108 does the OP want to change it? As the toning looks nice and I think it's been upgraded not down. So why would he want to other then it doens't fit into his set. I'd think he could sell that one and buy a replacement and have cash to boot.

    Doug,

Unfortunately, some people don't read everything before they make improper assumptions, and then they specualate about speculations others have speculated about.

You are NOT getting what he is talking about...read this line again:
His coins WERE switched, because he sent in his coin on REVIEW and it was decided that they had graded his coin wrong, so in that case, they do one of two things....they pay the differance, or send him ANOTHER coin that is graded correctly.

I don't know if I consider it improperly cleaned but I agree that the coin should not be graded. If I would have seen the coin before sending to NGC, I would have never sent it in. I think NGC doesn't want to get stuck on the hook later when some one complains about the spot.

That makes more sense to me, but I would think they would have bodybagged it instead. Interesting none the less.

Kinda got screwed on that one, sorry man :/
It would be cool if they gave you a free grading for your troubles.

And Dimefreak, I too was kinda skeptical when reading cncman's thread, but after taking a deep breath and rereading one more time, you start to understand what he is trying to say.
