Rhode Island Ship Medal - Replica - Ebay

Here is a specimen of a Rhode Island Ship Medal that sold for 292.50 on ebay tonight.

Though in my focal area of interest, I'm not particularly familiar with these medals. The specimen looks very suspect to me..!

Thoughts?

looks to have some sort of shillac on it

 

I don't like the look of the edge, or the details...

And considering the price listed in the Red Book (VF=$1200), it's a bit low...

 

After looking at it I am 99+% convinced it is a modern cast fake.

 

I agree. I also noticed that there were 66 bids placed by only 5 or 6 unique bidders. I am not sure what that means or if it means anything but, it was just something that stood out for some reason and I found odd?

I think 300-$400 is about right for a F-VF example with these apparent surface problems...if genuine.
