I just weight a 2X2 Flip, quarter sized which would probably be used for a 1/2 eagle and it weighed... DRUM ROLL... (3.1 GRAMS)!!!!
Great! Do you guys agree, that it's one step closer to being real? It has great Luster when I look at it. All the bubble looking things are down in the coin. they look like stractches, to me. SM
Now add 3 or 4 staples to the 2x2 and see what ya get. If the coin is off more than a 1/10 of a gram or so I would consider it suspect.
The problem with the marks is that they all appear to be round. Bag marks or circulation marks would not.
I will get a more accurate weight tomorrow at the Jewelers. In the mean time, Mine looks just like the 1897-s pictured above. I just can't get my camera to shoot it like that. The scratchs look the same way, the gouges... Thanks again, SM
I think you may just have posted quite possibly the worst photos of a gold piece I've ever seen, which made it look like some freakishly shiny piece of metal. With the weight coming in close (so far) and the 2nd set of pictures, it's less alarming, heh.
NO....don't do that untill you are 100% sure it is real. If you do the seller doesn't have to take it back....how can you prove that you didn't change it when it was out of the flip...or that you didn't clean it or so on... Speedy
if its real it won't matter and if it is fake, what is the seller going to say? If he's a crook he's not taking it back anyway. Ruben
That is where you are wrong. By law if it is fake...and since it is in the same holder he can prove by the handwriting on the flip who wrote it....the seller has to take it back...but the law wouls change if it is taken out of the flip. Speedy
I'm going to take it to a jewelers tomorrow and have it weighed accurately. I'll let you know. So, do the new photos add anymore hope to the coin being real? Thanks, SM
