?

Should coins in your mint/proof sets be condiered part of your runs in albums?

  1. Absolutely, you have the coin!

If you have an empty hole in your album, but you have the coin in a mint set or proof set, can you consider the album complete? For some reason, I can't. I will not cut up the mint sets either! Am I crazy because I feel I have to get that coin somewhere else?

What do you think when it comes to yours?

sorry about the spelling in the poll, ugh. "considered"

I guess I'm not as OCD as you :D
Take for example my merc set...all there except the 16d it's in a NGC holder in the SDB and it's cool with me.
As for opening the mint and proof sets....many mint sets it would not bother me to open but some it would I guess. Proofs I don't open and don't collect them by set that way.

Here's an idea for you...collect a mint set set or proof set set. That way you can get all the coins and not have the feeling of needing to open them~!~

No, definately not complete! I have every mint set and proof set from my birth year and I still don't consider any of those coins as really part of my collection. Plus, it's more fun to find the coin out of the element of a proof or mint set. For me, cutting them out of said sets just feels like (darts eyes back and forth then whispers in uncomfortable tone) cheating.

I have to admit my motive for this post is for the software I am writing, in addition to my OCD collecting habits.

I basically want to know if users would want their mint set coins figured into their "coin runs".

I assume slabbed coins would definitely be included.
The point would be to view/print a quick list of missing coins for the trip to the shop or show.

I dont consider mint sets are part of my set unless I break the set open.
    Slabs are definitely included.

I open my mint and proof sets and put the coins in the albums. For coins that I have that are slabbed I put a coin in the album slot reverse out. For Kennedy Halves, Washington Quarters, etc. I try to use a BU/AU silver version of the coin.

I dont think the set is complete with a hole in it even if you have the coin in your mint set. I will not even count the ones I have that are slabbed. I have two sets going. I cerculation album set and a slab set that I keep in another album. If i have one in one set but not in the other, I still feel I need the other one to complete the set.
I guess i have OCD to.

Take Prozac with a beer chaser, it won't matter at all.

    Agreed.
I'd have it just like the Red Book or others.
Mint set as an additional set option but not pull them automatically into the sets.

i feel the same way too. i have to have the coin in the set for it to count, not in a mint set. if i wanted to complete a set that badly, personally, i would break open the mint set.

And you shouldn't consider your album complete that way, unless you remove the coins from the mint/proof sets and place them in the album.

Sometimes, I'll get a proof set just for one coin because it's cheaper. I spent a year looking for a 1995 Kennedy proof silver, and the cheapest I could purchase just the coin was $84.00. Then found someone selling the 1995 silver proof set for $74.00, ten bucks cheaper, so bought the set, and put the Kennedy in the album.
