Today i picked up a little tripod on the cheap and decided to put my little point and shoot to the test. These are my first coin pics taken with my mickey mouse rig. I used two different lights both diffused. ( one of them with a cut out milk jug). I was using the macro mode and playing around with the exposure settings. I think i could get these a little better using brighter light sources. Feel free to take a poke at grading these if you wish, and any tips for taking better pics would be appreciated.
Pretty dollars and some nice pictures. I can't wait to see what you do after a little practice. Thanks for sharing.
Nice pics Kevo.....:smile Stab-o-rooney at grading: 1904-O....ms-63 1881-S....ms-64 1924-P.....au-58 1886-P.....xf-45
Nice images. Consider trying a non-reflective black or dark grey background. Also try your lighting direction from 10 o'clock.
Kevo, Very nice photos for your first attempt. Three things come to mind when seeing these. Careful focus is very important on Macros. Your camera needs a Whitebalance adjustment. The your camera needs to be set for a timed trigger with a tripod. (Allows for best focus) You should look up Mark Goodman's website at http://coinimaging.com/, and his article on http://coinimaging.com/photography.html. Get his book it is one of the best investments you will ever make. IMO This is the best training guide I have seen for photographing coins. Next green18 you are brutal Do you have any coins you would like to sell
Lol i thought so too. That peace dollar is dripping luster with only a few scattered light hits. I was thinking 63 As for the 86 harder to grade to me obverse is toned and im thinking weak strike. prob au55. Thanks for the tips!
Nice coins and pretty good photos. But why a PINK background? I've seen people using black, brown, white but so far never a Pink background.
I would guess the pink is more of a white balance issue. Try non diffused light also. I prefer it for myself and think diffused light takes away details and luster. Just my opinion, keep playing!!
Calls 'em as I see's 'em folks. I'm notoriously hard at times, but it's always fun to take a stab at it. The fact that the '23 has what appears to be booming luster wasn't lost on me. The hits on the eagles tail and what appeared to be slight wear on Libertys' hair influenced my decision.....:smile
Good Start- Want to have some fun down load PhotoScape it's free see my post "New Toy" I used it on the first picture the Barber Quarter Have fun
Not bad at all. Some constructive criticism. The photos appear a little "flat". Try raising the light closer to the camera (i.e. increase the angle between the light and the coin).
