The word "Horse" conjurs up images in people's minds. What those images are depends upon the exposure of one's sumtotal past effecting his/her's life experiences envolving horses.

What do these horse terms mean to you?

Apaloosa, Arabian, Belgium, Buckskin, Charger, Clydesdale, Gaited, Hackney (hack), Lipizzaner, Mustang, Paint, Pacer, Palomino, Quarter Horse, Shetland, Tennessee Walker, Thoroughbred, and Trotter.

It's not my intention to equate all horse terms, breeds, and registries to currency (coins or paper), but do want you know about a few I found. Those of you, interested in "horses on currency" may enjoy the following:

Note: Any link to a coin or banknote for sale is not my endorsement of the particular item nor the company offering the currency nor is this disclaimer a warning against any transactions offered by the company or its affiliates.

The first "Horses on currency" photo (courtesy of World Coin Gallery) features the Eohippus which paleontologists believe is the progenitor of modern horses as the Mastodon is to Elephants. The name Eohippus was coined by Othaniel Charles Marsh and interprets to Dawn Horse.

This coin depicts an artist's rendition of what two Eohippi would look like if they existed today (the animal's extinct and the artist only had fossils and sketchy data to work with). The country authorizing the coin is Bosnia-Herzegovina:

    1994 500 Dinara (copper-nickel):

Also, in 1994 a gold (0.1998 oz. AGW) coin was authorized featuring the same Eohippus design on its reverse.

The following "Horses on currency (coins)" photos I enjoyed finding are listed alphabetically by issuing entity's name. (photos courtesy of Black Mountain Coins unless noted)

A great piece if research. You obviously have a) plenty of time on your hands, b) no friends and c) no life. I'M ONLY JOKING.

I've just spent about a year of my spare time helping someone to update a website for the sheer love of coin and banknote collecting.

Just did a quick search through the banknotes on the World Paper Money catalogs and came up with 83 references to horses. Okay, a lot of them are repeats and I did exclude the reference to a "horseshoe shaped window" but did include sea-horses and mythical (unicorns).

The one that gave me a laugh was the reverse of the Hungarian 100 forint note (1984-1993 series). The scene is described as "Took refuge from the storm". My wife's name is Took and the only refuge from a storm connected with her is when I get out of the house.

Which prompts me to sign off now and spend some time with the few friends I have.

Keep up the good work on informing, educating and intriguiging.

    Vic

One of the most dominant images on Large Size currency from the USA featuring the "Horse" is the Series 1914 Red and Blue Seal $10 Fed Reserve Note.

It is the spirit, strength and agricultural backbone of this nation..the horse also represents the growth and dynamic of developing the West in the early 19th century..
I felt this must be included in your Thread...

You can almost feel the power of the vignette as the USA began it's rise to power in the formative years.
